So basically I'm struggling to find work. Does anyone know how to go about getting voluntary work so I will have something for my CV? Is it just as simple as walking into a charity shop and asking? What other places could I volunteer at?

charity shops , animal shelters , vets (possibly).

some boots warehouses have voluntary work if its dealing with there charity stuff, i once worked at a boots warehouse in nottingham where we had a lot of voluntary workers sorting through old stock and seeing what was worth sending to charities

It always looks good on your C.V.

I used to do some voluntary for St john ambulance, but gave it up as i could not be arsed with politics.

I would look for something like st john if you're interested, as it gives you more than just a extre sentence for the c.v. you will likely get certificates and other skills (C.p.r etc) whilst most of these aren't able to be carried across to public domain jobs, it still shows dedication and ability to learn

Depends on what goes on in your area really. I think the way the government are planning things for the future, most local services will have voluntary work available.

Your time would be better spent looking for paid work. Filling in one application form is better than working one unpaid shift.

Thanks for the do-it link, applied for some Marie Curie collection placements and a country park volunteer one :) unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything in my area on the CSV website. Also has anyone here done an apprenticeship in something and would you ever recommend it to anyone/how did you go about starting it? That would be one avenue I haven't researched yet.

True. Although last time I used that smiley I was threatened with a ban just for using it. Good old dons eh :)

i use it all the time but i think im on my final warning :D

kinda suck they would ban someone whos been around so ages that quite often helps people out with sound advice!

there will be a volunteer service for your area, have a look on your town council website.

They will be able to make a list of places and inquire for you.
