Looking for an RTS with fairly modern time settings (ww2 to present day sort of range) but is bigger than coh, with submarines (and a navy) aeroplanes etc.

anyone know of any?

Empire Earth? ( set the starting age at ww2)
Rise of nations? ( set the age at industrial )
C&C RA2.
C&C Ra.
Supreme commander ( future though).
C&C Generals.

yeah empire earth (1/2) was all i could think of, don't really want future.

Hadn't thought of Rise of nations will have a look :)

world in conflict

Aside from the time frame doesn't have anything i asked for :p

That and it's a shockingly bad game.

Tefal, this doesn't fit your requirements exactly and it's not a RTS by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a battle simulation involving battalion sized engagements with infantry, armour, air and artillery support. It can be real time or turn based and is based upon a fictional war in Syria in 2007. Can be played as the US Army, US Marines, British and Syrian forces - but it is not a walk in the park, and it is too hardcore for a lot of people. But it is considered a very accurate simulation and there is an awful lot of strategy involved too. You can progress in semi-dynamic campaigns and you have to manage your forces as applicable. There's a free demo out if you fancy a flutter.

There's also another game out by 1C and BFC which maybe more along the lines of what you fancy - Theatre of War 2. This is more of a RTS and is not as accurate as the above, but it is prettier, and plays pretty good too. You've got two theatres, Africa and Kursk in 1943.

You can also download a demo of this too.

Look up hearts of iron 3. That's the mother of all strategy games. Very indepth but still great fun.

Very bloody hard to learn to play though:p

But my only complaint would be the fact you cant actually control armys in the battles like Total war games or COH

Tefal mate I still play company of heroes a lot but my clan told me about Blitzkrieg mod for it, omg it has enhanced CoH ten fold!

Download it now, contact me on steam and i'll send your our ts3 details.

I have also started playing Men at War, harder than CoH and more micro management.

downloading atm to see. i tried eastern front but never really liked it...

43mins to go on blitzkrieg.

played some dumkopf last night on COH they hugely piospam, use ghost TT and i suspect map hacking and then claim they did not cheat:/ most perplexing.

Not really what you asked for but Battlestations Midway and Battlestations Pacific have rts elements to them and have submarines.
