Yep was reading about this...basically its the encryption that RIM use that make it impossible for the Govt to see what your doing;)...security risks my arse BB is one of the most secure platforms out there in the mobile world...didnt your network there put an update a while back which installed some sort of spyware or something onto the devices causing all sorts of grief...saying it was from RIM but wasnt really.

YEah, they told everyone to install an update, which was actually sending information from your phone back to them which drained a lot of batteries. There are going to be a lot of dissapointed people.

I strongly suspect that NSA have a back door facility into the encryption.

If its using xES or RSA <1024bit then NSA is definitely on it. I've seen proof of concept for extracting meaningful data from even 2048bit RSA in a useful timeframe using 2x 9800GX2 so I'm guessing they aren't far behind that either.

They may well have but at the moment its hard to get any sort of data off a blackberry especially if its encrypted and not only that the data is stored on RIMs servers..which is why the UAE is kicking up a stink i imagine.

I'll just pop up to a pub I know just a couple of miles from Menwith Hill and ask the Americans who frequent the pub with their families if they can intercept & decrypt RIM encryption algorithms.

Yeah go ahead and come back and let us know

I was reading about the NSA and blackberry and less than around 2 years they were unable to track blackberries and even went to RIM to see if they could.

Dont get me wrong, they might be able to now.

Inferno looks like BBs are banned starting 11th Oct this year:(

Following up on earlier statements calling BlackBerry a "security risk", the United Arab Emirates will be fully banning BlackBerry services as of October 11th. This means no BBM, no email, no nothing for UAE BlackBerry users. In addition to that, it also looks like Saudi Arabia may also be the next to start blocking access.

"With no solution available and in the public interest ... Blackberry Messenger, Blackberry E-mail and Blackberry Web-browsing services will be suspended until an acceptable solution can be developed and applied," Telecommunications Regulatory Authority director-general Mohamed al-Ghanim said in a statement carried on state news agency WAM.

The decision comes as threats to national security grow as the BlackBerry data services operate out of the government's control. All carriers will have will be a part of the ban, which could also affect other devices down the road.
