games for 5 year old to play ?

(I did write out a really long post about when I was gaming at a young age and all that, but then my browser decided it didnt want to be on this page anymore :S)

So in short, grab yourself a PS2 and give him these games:
Crash Bandicoot 2
Crash Bandicoot 3
Spyro 1
Spyro 2
When ge gets a bit older, try Jak and Daxter then maybe even FFVII and Time Splitters 2.

Aah....the memories... here's a fun thing to try:
Ever find yourself having a terrible day with yout favourite fps? Reactions simply not up to scratch? Try TS2 training! Time Splitters 2 is argueably the best ever fast paced FPS, a few games of that and you will have exercised your reactions to the point of super-human ability! Seriously, it works xD

cmon guys half the people on this forum probably played games from a very young age , some of my earliest memories are of playing on my older brothers atati , spectrum , c64 , amigas , 3do , playstation etc.

my son kepts plenty of exercise he doesnt sit infront of a screen for 12 hours a day, he also has plenty of lego etc.

How about a few puzzle games, monkey island series, simon the sorcerer series and similar point and click games?

They are pretty engaging especially since they make you think a bit rather than got to a do this, go to b do that likes many a modern game does.

I played games from a young age and they didn't do me any damage, anything bad that's happened is generally my own doing because i'm not as responsible as i should be with many things.

Broken Sword, Grim Fandango, Full throttle etc etc ;)

Counter Strike Source is good clean fun as well. Not to violent, no smut, yet is still competitive.

Indeed, but not stuff like GTA. I can understand letting a young teenager play the game, but at 5 years old, when their developement and learning is at such a speed, is just wrong tbh. This isn't a dig at your parenting btw, it's just my personal opinion :)

Allowing a 5 year old to play GTA is a fail anyway you look at it.

I have 2 boys (8 & 4). The 4 year old goes on Cbeebies only (very very rarely as he's 4 so is too busy being a ninja or fireman sam).
My 8 year old has a laptop with a 8600GT and an Xbox 360. Up until last week when he had a blast on BC2 the worse game id let him near is Unreal Tournament.

Kids are very impressionable at this age and allowing a child to run riot in a realistic city environment beating, killing and stealing with no consequence for his actions is setting a very scary standard for social responsibility. Yes we know those things are wrong but at 5 your a blank canvas.

Buy him a football!

5 year old? Cbeebies or Nick Jr have a ton of games to keep them amused.A 5 year old will typically have a shorter attention span than an adult so any 'proper' games might not hold their interest for long.

And as mentioned above, the likes of GTA is massively inappropriate IMHO.

Spot on. That's why mine youngest plays TF2, she changes class every few minutes and doesn't get bored :D

similar to me, although my 8yr old now plays TF2 but spends his time spanking bots on the achievement servers.
He did used to play WoW on a private server a year back, and as silly as it sounds it helped his reading doing the quests - but when he started to talk a little too much about it, it was time for it to go.
I don't mind him on any game with shoot&kill games so long as its cartoon(ish).
4yr old is Cbeebs site only.

Also just like to add, they have about 2hours per week - rest of time is playing out/karate/home work/family stuff.
