Say you wanted to download the whole of the contents of the internet. Say adding content was frozen from now.

How many 1TB HDD would you need and how many hours would it take on a typical 200 kbps British line?

Typical 200KBSP line? O.o

As for the amount of hard drives, over 9000.

I'm going to guess it's almost impossible to know, as it depends on if you're talking about duplicate data, and because the internet is always growing (this thread for example is adding more data / size to the 'total' size of the 'net) the requirements would change every second. Unless you mean a snap shot. It's a very interesting question though, I'd love to know exactly roughly how much data there is...

Yeh a snapshot, say from 2pm, like now.

From wikipedia:

In fact, the combined space of all the computer hard drives in the entire world does not amount to even one yottabyte

As of 2009 the entire internet was estimated to contain close to 500 exabytes

Assuming the INET is 4PB as some articles suggest:

Number of hard drives:

4096 (Lol source for inets size must have been from AGES ago)

Time to download:
4PB
4194304 GB
4294967296Mb
3.51843721 x 10^13 Kb

34722222 Hours
13 minutes
20 seconds

Hey but this is prob all wrong and 4PB seems/is way too small, going off Oli (500 exa) it would be

4340277777777 hours
46 minutes
40 seconds

So yeah... quite impossible :D

So following that , you would need 500000 1tb hardrives?
