The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is not expected to see the Android 2.1 (Éclair) update until late Q3. However, Sony Ericsson is no doubt testing the ROM extensively before release. gbil from xda-developers has managed to get hold of the test version and is revealing some information of what he’s found so far.

First off, no features from Android 2.2 have been included in the 2.1 stack. This means no native tethering options and no Flash. The build tested includes live wallpaper and “better customization of the messaging app.” He says that the integration of SE apps (Timescape/Mediascape) is better, along with a more responsive browser. The dialler is the same as before and there seems to be no change in speaker loudness.

Other changes include a lock screen that adopts a similar design to the stock Android 2.1 build. The sliding arrow is gone apparently, however this may change in the final version. In-call volume has yet to be tested. HD (720p) video recording is also available and a sample is due to be posted shortly. Further details are expected as he plays with the build and we’ll update you with any major developments.

ne of the big features to come from the Q3 Android 2.1 update on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is HD video recording. We previously reported that gbil from xda-developers is in possession of the Android 2.1 test ROM and is testing out some of the features. One of these includes HD video recording.

He has shot a short video that we have uploaded onto YouTube for you to enjoy after the break. If you want to look at the raw file, then you can download it here. The frame rate doesn’t seem that high (less than 10fps) but it gives a good indication of what to expect at this stage, plus improvements are likely. Check out the video after the jump.

Another method to rooting the X10 / X10 Mini / X10 Mini Pro

Xperia Root Files: Right Click Here

Extract the files to the root of your C:\

From the command line (on windows it's cmd.exe):

cd c:\exploid_x10mini (or another folder where you've extracted the files from exploid_x10mini.zip)
adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk
adb push su /sdcard/su
adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals/exploid
adb push busybox /sqlite_stmt_journals/busybox
adb shell
cd sqlite_stmt_journals
chmod 755 exploid
chmod 755 busybox
Immediately after the next command, you will need to disable and enable the wi-fi using the power widget on the phone:
./exploid
then run:
rootshell
enter password rootnow
prompt will change to # - now we have root
./busybox cp /sdcard/Superuser.apk /system/app/
./busybox cp /sdcard/su /system/bin/
./busybox cp busybox /system/bin/
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
rm /system/bin/rootshell
exit - out of rootshell
exit - out of adb shell

I have tested this both on my X10 and X10 Mini

This worked on a Generic UK R2BA026 (X10i)& 1.1.A.0.8 (X10 Mini) install from SEUS then I ran this exploit.

Reading between the lines its getting there, looks to be stable at boot now which is good.

Another week or so and I think It would be ready.

Whoop rooted my x10mini :D and removed peggle, edge, roller coaster and wisepilot.

Still having some trouble removing apps like google talk and playnow it just says no file in list, is there a specific way to typing the appname in cmd prompt?

Don't remove Google Talk, I did and it caused a few things to stop working. Probably also the same for PlayNow. I also removed timescape and that caused my phonebook to forceclose when I tried to view a contact.

Yea i tried that...

Seems to fall over for me though, i have installed both API 4 packages and when i click to run the ddms.bat the cmd box opens and closes quickly and nothing happens.

Managed to read the dos screen and it is saying that Java is not found in my path, although Java is installed...

You are not running x64 windows are you? If you are maybe you need to follow this fix to get Java to work in a command window.

"Andy" or Andy; going to send my phone to SEUK soon for repair. However the form says not to send the battery. I think my battery problem is caused by the battery, could it be the handset*? There is another fault which is handset related (unless it is O2) though - when I use the internet, the signal suddenly drops every few minutes (even I am in the same position) and comes back 5-20 seconds later.

*When using the internet on 3G, the battery drops around 1% per minute.
