I'm back baby!
Been given approval to choose a company car from a lease plan. The lease restricts me to VW/Seat/Skoda/Toyota.

I need an estate and the car itself needs to be large enough to carry 4 adults plus luggage on a fairly regular basis and 5 adults on a non-regular basis. To this end I'm looking at the Octavia, the Passat and the Avensis. The Avensis seems more expensive through the scheme than the others for not much reason.

Questions:

What are your thoughts?
What is Blue Motion and why is it worth so much on the list price?
Is the Avensis so much better than the others in my list?
Is the Golf estate worth looking at in place of the Passat?

My heart is with the Passat as I had one for a time some years ago and it was excellent. I'm going to view them all over the next day or so.

I am, thanks :)

(there doesn't appear to be a Superb estate - at least not on the lease plan).

Who's your lease company?

Lex Autolease. The Superb isn't even on the lease, it could be the next grade up. I can't see them but can put in for them and pay extra towards if it is well worth it. Needs to be an estate though.

Such talk in here will land you in hot water :p

Man of Honour, Ex Don or whatever will not save you :p

My only OT advice is to drive as many as possible and make your decision based on that.

Don't get the petrol. I'd try with the 2.2 Diesel as that's a great engine.

The TR is a good starting spec, as it comes with things like NAV, the T4 then adds leather and improved sound system, the T-Spirit then goes for top spec and adds all the toys like bi-xenons 18" alloys and on the tourer a panoramic roof.

My info and memory is a little vague now as I left shortly before these cars launched but I had to read up on all the info and spec for the new models. So it's worth visiting a dealer and having a look. The old TR Avensis was the most popular model I sold and the bulk of them were 2.2 D-4D's.

Put in for a Superb, see what happens. I think they are great.

Everything else on your list is a bit like wallpaper paste. My head explodes at the thought of chosing between a Passat or an Avensis diesel.

There's no-one in here to be scared of, they're all pussy cats when you meet them in person :D

I will be viewing and driving them over the next days/week anyway. Just wanted to know peoples thoughts.

'Get the Avensis' isn't much of a thought though.

Which Passat did you have Gilly? I really dislike the new shape Passat vs my revision.

Think it was an 03 1.8T

The new Octavia isn't all that bad.
They're all pretty much on par with each other. Just get the most powerful and well equipped.

I already discounted Seat because I don't like the way any of them look.

The Avensis is out, the one I drove was rather clunky, was very, very plasticky inside and the rear roof slopes too much for my dog to fit in properly.

The Octavia (appallingly bad) and Superb (not as bad) aren't even nearly as well put together as the Toyota and the Volkswagen. I didn't bother taking either of them out.

I'm left with a Golf estate or a Passat estate. I'm hoping one of them suits else I'm back at square one. Driving them tonight.

The Passat is hardly a well put together car either though? These are all cheap cars, its a shame to discount the Superb for something none of the others are themselves any good at?
