**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

*sticks hand up* Guilty of the same thing :) I used the defend, build up and then rush tactic almost all the time back in my C&C days.

Doesn't work with this game. Felt out of my depth at first but I'm getting there

I didn't realise the practice games ran at a slower game speed to ladder, combined with the rubble blocking the maps off I don't think its worth practising anything but a good starter build order, since it is nothing like league games!

think thats what its for, i just skipped all of mine and went straight into it. i think its pretty good for new players though so they can get their timings sorted and a decent build order

Does everyone stick to certain build orders? I have been playing some 1v1 recently and they are a lot more tactical that 3v3 or 4v4. I change my build order depending on what I see going down when I scout and what map im playing. Sometimes I will decide to defend base aswell with cannons, sometimes not, sometimes I try and defend the choke sometimes not.

I am slowly learning to not just sit back and do nothing as that gets you no where and is also boring. Building a 4 or 5 unit scout/attack party has been helping a lot. I have won the last couple of 1v1, but only just.

I tend to have a set build order in mind that im aiming for. but then i adapt to what my opponant does...

for example, if i say "im going mutas this game".. start my build order, then scout his Stargate, i'll switch my build order to encorporate more hydra instead of mutas..

same applies if im going roaches and i see a robo go down.. switch to roach/hydra or ling/mutalisk :)

thats how i do it anyway, all about adaptation.

Bah i want to get into multiplayer but i want to finish all the single player 1st... and well i am finding it tricky, took about 3 hours to finish into the jungle on brutal.

It is amazing though how upping the difficulty ups your gameplay massively in general. Normal mode 1 barracks is fine, even without a reactor. Brutal... why not have 3!

I just make it up as I go along. I don't think I will ever have a build order on any level that goes beyond when I put my pool hatch and first gas down.

After that it will be "I'd like to put down a Tech building* at about x food" "I'd like to upgrade to Hatch at x food". "I'd like to put down an infesters den at x food" "I'd like to go to Hive at x food"

What tech buildings I put down will differ based upon what my opponent is doing and X food will depend on about a bazillion variables.

My expansions happen based upon the flow of the game. If I get an opportunity to expand I take it. If I need to expand I try to force an opportunity to expand (i.e. attack the enemy or do something to deter him from attacking me.)

*because the hatch is your only unit production building as zerg. I class all other buildings as tech buildings... Don't know if anyone else does this.

I'm bad so I just do the same build every game. And I plan on doing it until I'm actually good at this build, because I'm still very new to the game so my mechanics aren't down yet. Once I get good at multitasking and macroing properly I'll start doing other builds. But for now, it's 2/3 gate into colossus.

Going through the campaign on Brutal difficulty and it's exactly that, brutal. My tried and tested RTS strategic of fortifying my base, building up a Xerxes Persian-like army and obliterating the enemy is starting to prove ineffective as I'm progressing through the game.

Currently playing Heaven's Fall (iirc the name correctly. It's the mission after Welcome to the Jungle) and I've managed to take out two of the seven settlements. They are destroying them (my guys) as fast as I can build them. I'm thinking at least 5 hours to get through this mission, if I don't run out of things to mine.

Anyway, brilliant game.

Well tried a 7 hour trial and I gotta say this style of RTS may have been good in 1998 but in 2010 its awful. It's just point and click, then prey.

Gimmie Company of Heroes and Men at War anyday!
