Hullo everyone,

So the friend who bought the mondeo is back and has another issue with it.

When doing long distance journeys, he says the cabin gets VERY warm to a point where he has to stop, let the engine/car cool down, then resume the journey.

This sounded a bit odd to me as he usually has the air con on.

I had a poke around and his engine temperature seems within normal range. The radiators fan seems to be working as normal as well.

I decided to go for a little drive with him in the passenger seat. Sure enough, 50mins into the journey, I couldn't bear the heat. This is with the air con set to full cold and all windows wound up.

The fans are blowing in relatively cold air but what alarmed me was the amount of heat coming into the cabin. Surely this can not be normal? What could be causing it?

Also forgot to say a thank you to those who helped with the last problem, found out the coil ignition pack wasn't working properly so the once replaced, the juddering had disappeared and he noticed a sizeable increase in performance.

Defcon5, it doesn't seem to be coming from a specific area. Just seemed like there was no dashboard between me and the engine.

Lashout_UK, I'll get on to that now, need to break out the manual on how to check that :o

iaind, 1.8 125bhp duratec engine.

mast3r, I did mate and it was very very warm, more so than normal but the temp sensor showed it was well within the normal operating range.

Sounds like the car has lost its heat shield from the exhaust at some point. I would have thought the aircon could have overcome this indirect heat.

Drive with the rear windows down and the aircon off, then try to feel for warm air blowing through from the footwells or around the dash.

My transmission tunnel gets toasty under normal operating conditions. I would not be surprised if it got that hot in the cabin if missing some heat shields!

Muffin`, I'll have to ask him mate, pretty sure he wouldn't know so is there any obvious way to check?

amigafan2003, it certainly doesn't feel like 2-6c, I would say more like 10-12c. Air Con might need a re-gas too?

Dureth, I'll see if he can come around this evening and we'll try it, thanks for the suggestion :)

Sin_Chase, heat shield seems to be a reoccurring comment so I'll have to get that checked. What do they look like and how can I tell if its missing?

Janesy B, Cheers :o Was just about to search for images after finding the manual.

Thought it would be more well hidden. I'll have a look this evening.

Right had a good look around the car yesterday and all the heat shields are in place.

The majority of the heat seems to come in via the footwells and the dashboard. I honestly cant figure out why the car is getting this hot

Gearbox oil seems to be within limits as the car had a service only 7 months ago.

Climate or ventilation controls/servos/linkages are packed up and it's getting hot air from the heater into the foot and dash?

I've come across Mercedes where part of the climate system fails after about 30/40 minutes and consequently one side of the cabin gets insanely hot, whilst the other has remains ice cold. Most infuriating.

Air hose/duct dropped off the heater matrix casing causing hot air to enter cabin even if blower and air con on cold at a guess.

Good thinking, worth trying it with the climate system fully off

If not, you need to find what is unusually hot under the bonnet, not where it's coming in. For something causing that much heat to enter the cabin, I'd expect it to be blindingly obvious

I'd agree with this, drive it till it gets hot then stop the car and search around for the heat source, feel carpets, dash etc.

Gearbox Oil isn't on the mondeo service schedule...get it checked if everything else fails.
