iPhone 4 vs HTC Desire

You should really go to the various phone shops and test the devices for yourself, also there are a few videos on Youtube explaining the differences quite well.

If the price is almost the same, I would also get the iPhone 4, and then proceed to sell it to get the Desire. Then swiftly go to the pub for a pint with my large profits... ;)

Anyway, after having used an iPhone 4, I found it incredibly similar to my Desire, but it didn't have anything special that would warrant the price increase, and it uses iTunes so I would never buy it since I don't like using that piece of software!

Desire is a great phone, i got rid because i bought a smart-phone for its apps and so on and android is rubbish compared to apple.

Can you explain why you think "android is rubbish compared to apple" ?

This probably is true for many people, the sheer customisation of Android might put a few people off on buying Android phones as it can take a while for some people to get used to it, and to get the most out of the operating system.
Where as with iOS, there is no where near as much to "do" compared to Android, so it sells well.

Just out of interest, what apps do you use on your iPhone that you didn't/couldn't use on your Desire?

on the music player side bTunes pretty much IS the iOS music player (for $1.49, or 90p) which is a steal to fix one of the biggest weaknesses of android.

The reasons i bought a Desire:

1. Cost, for all the pros/cons of each device the Desire is just miles cheaper than the ip4
2. Ergonomics, the Desire is far nicer to use and hold due to its soft touch matt plastic curved back cover. Yes the ip4 looks better but to use its horribly angular.
3. Screen size, 3.7'' is a good size (though a HTC sporting a 4'' would be better)
4. Customization and flexibility. With regard to both appearance and function I want to control MY experience. Android lets you do this iOS doesnt.
5. I am a techie and i like open source and dislike closed proprietary systems.
6. I dislike how Apple do business and present themselves as a company (to much ''its magic, beautiful'' etc nonsense)
7. Android has shown far greater willingness to innovate

um...ugly? ...im not sure what you mean... its just a simple clear font...not beautiful but i wouldnt call it ugly

You can probably get apps that do the same function, but they just look more polished from apple, plus android just don't have any decent games, maybe developers will start shortly though.

It seems they already have. I too was disappointed at the lack of games, but I did a bit of searching last night and I now have plenty of awesome games to keep me going. :)

The first batch of Desires were sourced outside the Three/HTC network setup and so came unlocked and unlocked (presumably they bought them in the same way that the 3rd party companies get their unbranded, unlocked phones).

Supposedly all the newer ones are the official phones that had Three's custom firmware and were therefore also locked.

Hmm.. I've already ordered a Desire, so this isn't the best news for me. Where did you get this information from?

As for getting an iPhone and selling it, when I said 'same price' I really meant it doesn't matter. £100 isn't a very big investment when you spread it over two years.

I have all but sold my phone now i need to find somewhere i can get a Iphone 4 from does anyone know a place to buy them.

I got my Desire 1 month ago. I had a play with the i4 someone had got at work. And tbh the iphone looked crap and functionally wasn't a patch on the Desire. I was very surprised.

I'd take the Desire hands down.

eBay seems to be the cheapest option at the moment.

LOL no it isnt...ebay is a rip off.

Best bet is try an apple store or order from apple direct but its a 3 week wait plus an extra week for shipping...which i found out to my dismay last week but on the bright side i should have mine by tommorrow...
