Number Plate Keeps Falling Off; ANNOYING!

Right,

I got a new plate for my car, it looks brilliant.

I’m determined not to screw it on. So far I’ve used a couple of things to stick it on.

These (twice)

These once

Every time they stick for a week or two then start to come off at the side. The car is a Boxster and it’s the curved front plate. One time (after washing) they fell of half way done the road, I must have looked well cool :rolleyes:.

Can anyone recommend a way of sticking it on properly?

Never. I can't see me buying another Porsche, if I do (I do sometimes get an itch for a c4s) I'll buy a some new plates for it, taty plates look dog poo.

Where can I get said stuff from?
 
My best mate works for a Porsche main dealer and does loads of PDI's for the precise reason you've posted this, the main dealers screw on the front plates and stick on the rears.

If you're adamant you want to stick the fronts on, have you tried cleaning the plate and the bumper with a solvent that won't harm your paint - or sugar soap wipes? then stick on and hold on for AGES! and then keep checking and re sticking.
 
Another thought, have you tried gently heating the plate and bending it to a shape that matches the curve in the bumper so it's no longer trying to peel itself off?

I'd try that plus the normal sticky pads first.
 
Go to a general auto parts store and ask for pre-cut double sided sticky pads. They are unbelievably strong. Literally took two people, a screw driver and brute force to get one off after being stuck on with those pads. Used them on many different cars and haven't had a problem. So those pads off ebay are probably rubbish quality. Unless you're putting it around a significant curve which could be causing the problem. Then you'll have to get holes cut in.
 
Sikaflex - is that permanent?

I'd avoid putting on something that will hold it too well! As even the stick pads can damage the paint when removing and refitting plates.

And what about the next owner - what if they want to change the plates?
 
Screw the front, pads for the back is what i do if the front is curved.
