New Gadget Show Series

Do they still have Panda man finding out things like what the best Kettle with an inbuilt mp3 player is?

Top Gear but with gadgets is a pretty fair comparison.

That's pretty much my take on it too.

However there is fundamental mistake they are making trying to make it an entertainment show instead of a proper gadget orientated, review show. Top Gear thrives because it's an entertainment show where three blokes mess around with cars which most people do not have the resources to own and probably never will. They hoon around and do silly things in £200-300k supercars.

The gadget show on the other hand messes around and do challenges with waterproof digital cameras and laptops. Most people have the resources to buy digital cameras, laptops, ipods, mobile phones and various other gadgets. So to watch them mess around with them isn't really that enjoyable. It would be a far better show if they actually did proper reviews.

There's no point in Top Gear doing proper reviews for the latest Zonda or Lambo as the percentage of people watching Top Gear who are looking to buy ones is probably in single digits. The Gadget Show on the other had, the number of people watching it and looking to buy the latest iPhone, digital camera and latest gadgets is likely to be quite high.

They need to sort it out. I use to like watching but now it's just boring. They spent the last whole half an hour of the show showing that stupid challenge which wasn't exactly exiciting. Then another fifteen minutes reading out the competition prize list which I didn't think was going to stop.

That's Jon Bentley, he used to produce Top Gear for years (when it was good!) and he also produced Fifth Gear for a long time too. Sometimes he even presented Fifth Gear I think. Oh, and if you want someone to blame for making Jeremy Clarkson famous, it's probably him!

I think he's quite a funny presenter, though if he were my dad I'd be very embarrassed I think! I feel like he has more integrity than the Gadget show allows, so he dumbs things down a bit, shame.

I wonder if they know what they are turning the show into and thus switching off thier audience? My guess is that they have let thier previous success go to thier heads and are no just fueling the hype instead of being interesting, informative or even entertaining!

Used to watch it more than I do now. I could miss it now, and it wouldn't bother me much. Each series is too long, and they have a new series too often. If the series were shorter, was less of them in the year, and shortened the show run time, there would be more to talk about, in terms of new gadgets etc. It's on so often, companies can't make new stuff fast enough, so they go over the same iPod comparison test again and again. They have a top 5 of water pistols, or something else that really shouldn't be in a show about gadgets just to fill the show up.

Needs a revamp really.

Watched the episode last night. Their iPhone review was terribly bad, and I knew it was going to be when they called anyone who criticised it 'Apple Knockers' at the beginning.

And Comedy Dave to help with the review? This is the same person who didn't know what a smartphone was last year, let alone half of the stuff they're capable of. It was Chris Moyles that bought him his and I very much doubt he has tried any of the competition.

How many times can the get the phrase "cutting edge" into an episode?!?

Bunch of idiots imo.

That said, the 'Tech' section in last week's Shortlist magazine was pathetic. I was actually irked enough to contemplate emailing them explaining that the Samsung Wave ISN'T an Android phone, and that having Flash in a mobile browser does not 'make it faster'.

grrrrrr!

This is on C5 now. They happened to be doing the iPony 4 review... needless to say, as soon as they said that it was the best smartphone on the market, I laughed and switched it off.

What utter crap.

I'd love to win one of their competitions though! :p

Couldn't believe when it was some lucky ******* up here who was on last week's show as being the winner of their largest prize fund to date!

Funny thing is I recognised where he lives.... ;)

I still enjoy watching, even if it is only cos of Suzi Perry. Which made me think am i alone in that? Would ya???

I contacted her through her website and asked for an autographed photo, I got it a couple of weeks later. I only did it to make my GF jealous as she thinks I only watch it because of Suzi (ithink she right actually ;)). Now and again i get the picture out of the draw when my GF is there and quote what Suzi wrote 'To Paul, lots of love, Suzi' :D
