Been playing Tropico 3 for the last few days and although it's a great game it's insanely difficult !

I've been trying to complete the Pilgrim level where you have to get 150 tourists in a 20 year period, sounds easy but by the time I have kept all the little natives happy with building churches, clinics, housing and everything else the tourists just come in dribs and drabs.

The last attempt got me 142 tourists (annoyingly close) I literally had a zoo, spas, restaurants, hired a professional chef from abroad, made a pirate film, built scenic lookouts, native camps, pools, beach spots and pretty much everything else only for 2 tourists to arrive by boat, The most I have ever got at one time is 14 but it happens very rarely. What am I doing wrong ?

My island was making shed loads of cash (200,000+ in the bank) I had appartments instead of tennements, 3 hotels, about 10 bungalows, tobacco factory, rum factory, literally everything ticking away smoothly and still they wouldn't come !

I even reduced the entry price into most attractions to next to nothing to try and get more toursists in but no.

Any help would be great as next time I come that close after 2 hours work the monitor is going out the window.

I did this one, cant remember what I did exactly but at one stage I got a huge influx of tourists. I thought it was building more hotels but you already have 3. Have you got any motels? I think having a range of places to stay is a good idea, rather than all expensive hotels, not sure.

Some of the edicts like "Headliner" will bring more tourists.

Also, have a look at your tourist rating, maybe it's low for some reason or another?

Finally, Airport. When you start the level make sure to set aside space for an airport. I think I put mine on the beach somewhere in that level.

I did it without an airport

I admit it was fairly close but Im sure I ended the time with around 170 visitors.

My primary concern was first establishing a stable-ish economy, then I build a few hotels at the beach and lots of basic attractions close by, I had a nice beach complex, casino banks, bars and other things. I had a range of hotel quality and pricing to try and attract people.

I spammed beautification stuff (trees, gardens etc) where ever I could to help keep the place attractive and kept pollution as low as I could.

I kept upgrading housing and facilities for the inhabitants as well to try and keep them happy

first may i say i love tropico 3, its been a revelation for me, humour, great gameplay, looks good, etc. it offers some interesting challanges. the level in question you cannot build an airport, its too big if i remember. what i did was build a couple of tourist docks on the nice beach. keep all your industry well away from the beach, i had houses (no tenements or apartments) with free rent, etc. so non of those horrible shacks! police station, etc. to keep crime to a bare minimum, its more than doable, just take your time and really plan out your island. pollution is a real killer for tourism as well by the way, so things like selective cutting, etc. good luck dude :)

I used the tourist friendly president and just built hotels and villas by the million. Was easy fro mwhat i remember. Wasn't a single trick to it i thought

I bought this for the wife a while ago. (She never played it).

Is it worth me digging it out.

Edit.. Its the original.
