Over there...
Might be looking to buy a set for my near-field requirements, what would people suggest I demo?

Audioengine2

AE Aego M

Altec Lansing ultra

Logi Z2300

Bose companion 3

Splash out on focal XS!

Z5500 = the win

You have got to be kidding. He said near field, not surround. :rolleyes:

If the A5's are too big, definitely the A2's or the Aego's IMO. Although, that might depend on bass requirement. Common sense would say the Audio Engine's will sound better, but the Aego's will provide more bass.

should add i dont want 5.1, and its a bit extravagant to throw away three speakers of a £350 setup. WOuld rather just buy a better 2.1 setup (hence the comment about the Focal XS). they are a "big" sound though, no doubt

lol, no worries - thanks for the input all! I think i need to go demo the Aego Ms and the A2s then... my old Altec Lansing were decent too, and so i'll probably give those Ultras a go (as do the Z2300s lol i'm getting nowhere fast!)

EDIT: I think after reading some more i've narrowed it down to the A2s Aego Ms or the Creative Gigaworks T3

I just bought a pair of Adam A5X monitors and love the sound they produce. Over your budget but they do a smaller version the A3X that are available for around £340. You should give them a listen if possible......
