I've been driving my current chariot for close to 5 years now, since i passed my driving test. Its a 1.6 ford focus hatchback, its ok, its got a bit of poke, it doesn't rattle, 68k miles and the worst thing thats has gone wrong with it was the gearbox went, probably my faulty for thrashing it a bit when i first started driving... but ive got an hankering for something more.

I have wanted an Audi TT since I first saw one and recently test drove a 2001 225bhp one, it was a pretty short test drive so i couldn't really get a feel for the car but it seemed great.

I've been keeping an eye out on sales websites and this little beaut recently cropped up: http://www.carzone.ie/search/Audi/TT/Quattro-/201027198733894/advert?channel=CARS

Its a bit more than I had hoped to spend, was thinking 10-12 max. But my dad, who to be fair loves and knows cars better then I, insists i should try to buy as new as possible, makes sense, and even if it means going over budget, less sense but still.

Really just looking for anyone thats had or has a TT to relate their experiences really, good, bad indifferent.. also others suggestions for cars for are welcome, bearing in mind that in Ireland at 26 im still considered more dangerous then a nuclear power plant, full of nukes in north Korea :rolleyes:

It will be niggly. As is all VAG stuff! lol. But if your Focus has a bit of poke then the 225 and a remap would knock your socks off.

They're not bar cars IMO but never been one for the looks (personally) but the engines are good and decent tuning potential if thats your thing.

I've never driven one, but my friends has a massive amount of grip (or he has bigger balls than me).

Good step up I think.

That is an awful lot of money to spend on a 9 year old Audi TT.

I appreciate cars are expensive in Ireland but I think that means 'buy something else' not 'pay £11k for an old TT'.

Looks nice enough, I had a TT in the past. It was my first fast (ish) car. I really enjoyed having it and it did not have too many problems.

Try and find a TTQS if you can.

opened the advert, saw the age of the car. NINE YEARS OLD. remember that when you consider handing over £10k as a good idea

Can't comment on Irish prices, but if that's the going rate for a late-model TT 225 , go for it.

OMG NINE YEAR AUDI FOR 12K OMG!11 is all good and well, but if that's how much they cost, that's how much they cost.
Cars are ****ing expensive outside the UK.

I believe I covered that point.

My point was that there probably isn't a lot else out there at this price range.

Anyway, the car he listed is only 6 years old :confused:

A lot of insurance companies won't even quote me for the 225 model unless i'm over 30 and have 5 years no claims -.- However i managed to get a "reasonable" quote of 1050 euros for fully comp which im willing to pay.

As for the price of cars here, this country is a ******g disgrace when it comes to the price of things, especially cars. The government actually charges a double tax on cars, and as far as i understand the european court rules it illegal, but they still charge it. There is VAT and then VRT (vehicle registration tax) and it even applies to second hand cars. I checked out UK audi TT's and they are much cheaper with a better spec, but, to import one will cost me in the region of 4000-6000 euros in VRT, making it all but pointless.

/rant

Also my fault with the 9year old thing, the one i linked is different to the one i test drove and is a 2004 :)

Do it, unless it's overpriced and a dog.

At least you can get insurance. Over here you can't even get fire and theft if it's over 6 years old, let alone fully comp :confused:

A 2004 225bhp TT with 60k miles from a dealer for what about 10k GBP isn't that vastly different to the price it would be over here anyway is it?

This is the evil evil vrt that i speak of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_Registration_Tax

I actually imported my focus from the UK, i bought it for 4000 sterling, which was about 6000 euros at the time, and ended up paying about 2200 VRT on it. Importing a TT would still be an option but it would have to be about £7500 or less to make it worthwhile.

Sorry again for all the confusion with the 2001/2004, it was late when i posted :P

Remap nicely up to 290bhp with a Stage 3 with no internals changed, a friend has one, it goes like stink :D

Stage 1: Remap -> 260bhp
Stage 2: hoses, pipes, intercooler, remap -> 275bhp
Stage 3: Exhausts, remap -> 290-295bhp

Obviously torx!!!1111oen are increasing with every map too. About 5.5s 0-62 now he thinks.
