**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Got to say im getting killed in multiplayer im just having to stick at it and see what i can learn from others. So far ive only played terran maybe i should try the other factions to see if they suit me better

im normally a Zerg player but tried to play Terran for the 2nd phase of the BETA personally i found it really tricky to macro effectivly with them, so lost out big time if my armies got killed off.

I find it much easier to macro when im playing as Zerg, or even Protoss once you have warpgate tech up

Just started some placement matches after skipping my remaing practice matches, fed up of not being able to scout coz of the stupid blockades

Managed to win the first one against a slow teching protoss but there is still countless flaws in my play style :p

you should be able to scout before the blockades get put down.

Protoss - scout after you have put down your first pylon
Zerg - scout after your overlord has been completed
Terran - scout with the scv that builds your supply depot

I think he was talking about the Practice games that you can do before the placement games, in these games there is different rule set and also the ramps outside your base have the destructable rocks to stop rushes etc.

oh yeah, those ones!

pretty sucky those are!

Just got AA to work with my ATI card. It is unplayable with anything above 4x - ATI, you suck. Have now switched it back off. No wonder it wasn't in the driver to begin with. How are the rest of you getting on?

Edit: Just won my first practice match :). I think he tech'd up too quickly, whilst I concentrated on lots of smaller units. I made a lot of mistakes though! Hmm, a few more practice matches methinks until I sort out those inititial build issues.

If it's Haven's Fall you're talking about, I can sympathise. Played from 3am to 6:30am this morning and I'm just starting to feel I might gain the upper hand. What I'm doing is focussing on a settlement at a time, obliterate it and pull back to save my forces. Roaming around the map with an army will only see them flattened very quickly.

Make sure you send medics and SCV's with your troops for constant healing goodness. Make sure your base is bullet/bomb/nuclear proof as to not distract your attention with irritating micromanagement every attack on your base, leaving you solely to focus on taking on the objective.

I know it's hard (I play on Brutal, it's almost impossible at times), but just a bit of perseverance will get you there.

Ah, I sided with the doctor so I have a different mission to you I think..
You have to destroy 3 protoss bases before the great big ship reaches you and obliterates everything :/

The last base is too well guarded to destroy in time as far as I can see...

What I would like to know is the mentality of yourself regarding the building of SCV/Drones.

As it stands now, I'm constantly churning out SCVs. However I've been wondering if this is actually a hinderance to myself as each SCV qued removes Minerals, which could be used to build an army at tha tmoment in time.

With each mineral field having 8x minerals on it and each mineral allowing 2/3 SCVs to mine on it efficiently I'm also wondering if I'm creating an over saturation of SCVs that doesn't increase my mineral intake but lowers the speed of my army production.

Can anyone give me their mentality as to what they do and why regarding the SCV's/Drones/whatever protoss has.

protoss use probes.

3 minerals to each mineral patch/gas so wait until you have 27 probes and expand or fast expand with zerg. Once you have this you can start pumping out units. I will boost (protoss) the nexus to build economy faster or boost gateways or stargates depending what I am going for/what the enemy is doing. Then once expansion is up you get more boost and can boost 2 or more things at once - upgrades, gateways/warpgates etc

I build a few at first, then the usual supply depot, barracks etc. I usually get gaps though when I can't build anything and units are in the queue, so I fill the gaps with SCVs. I can't remember the final number, but somewhere in the low 20s is a good final goal for a mineral patch.

In MP you would not aim for 27 probles before pumping out units though. A good way to get seriously rushed.

Never queue any unit in production, learn to build what you need without queuing things up.

You should never stop building SCVs or probes. (Zerg need to alternate between drones and army so they do stop from time to time)

All things being even in the world if you have constantly produced scvs and constantly built units then you should be in a position to safely expand to more mineral patches and transfer a chunk of your scvs there.
