Can anyone tell if the green structure in the Street View link below is an FTTC-enabled BT cabinet?

Up to how far away can I expect it to be from my house?

It will be beside the smaller green rectangluar box, which should be down the street somewhere since its in housing development.

The one you linked to probably isn't anything to do with it im afraid.

In a straight line, the closest FTTC cabinet I've noticed BT install to our house (so far) is 300m as the crow flies, 500m if you follow the roads.

So only likely to be one for the whole estate? It's like a game of Where's Wally using Street View.

Found it!

It was at the entrance to the estate. Don't think it could've been any further! So is that an FTTC-enabled one?

There's also this grey box about 100m up the road:

The first one is the cabinet which would have an FTTC cabinet beside it if it gets upgraded. Its better to go out now and check yourself cause obviously Google Street View pictures were taken a good while ago.

Yep I drive past it everyday (that's the only way in/out of the estate by car). I'm surprised I've never noticed it before; but I suppose that's the point!

Have you noticed a new cabinet beside it?

Probably just as easy to check the BT Infinity site and see if you can get it.

I'll take a look tonight on my way home.

I phoned BT up a couple of months ago as my exchange was meant to go live in March/April. They said keep an eye on the Sam Knows page for my exchange as I should be able to get it when the tick appears on there. It's on there now but the BT Infinity site still says no. I'll give them another call later.

There was no 2nd box when I took a look last night :(

Called up BT as well who were as helpful as a car with no wheels.

Well there has been activity around my area over the last 3 days. Decided to check out the cabinet nearest to me and to my surprise the FTTC cabinet was being installed beside it!

The company was KN Networks, who do the installs around Northern Ireland. Weird thing is though, it said and still says on the BT Infinity website that Infinity will be available "31st October 2010" and also on the the website 'www.fasterbroadbandni.co.uk' it says the cabinet will be installed '31st Jan 2011'!

Are BT just installing the cabinets first and then actually enabling the service when they say so on the website, or is it available when the cabinet gets installed and the website just hasn't been updated? I have looked on the Openreach website for dates that places will be enabled and mine isn't on the list. I guess they are only listing areas that they know will be fully upgraded with FTTC. I'm out in the countryside, about 3.15km from the exchange in town.

Where abouts was that then? I haven't seen anything where i live.

I'm getting confused with Inifnity now after spending all day today looking into it and reading up on it, I'm consfused, if they list an exchange for being done, does that mean it'll be dong every green box in the exchange's grasp?

Our house we're moving into to is currently looking to be ~3mb capable (:() But the exchange is one of the first listed in the East Midlands which is nice, I'm just worried about how many green boxes per exachange they do? There is a green box around 170 metres road length (Not as the Crow flies) sadly as of this afternoon without a little friend, but hopefully soon :D So I'm hoping they should be able to get the minimum 15mb throughput through the 170 odd metres into the house and socket?

Essentially, what do you think my chances are of actually getting a green box mate for our green box? Really hoping we can get it! :D
