You will see there is a software update. Its not Froyo! Its an updated voda firmware which adds lots of their own apps, loads of bookmarks and a voda splash screen on boot.

Looks like a lot of vodafone customers aren't happy with this as they though it was the 2.2 update and there is no way of getting rid of it without rooting the phone. Glad I saw thread tbh, although I don't know if not installing this will cause problems when they release 2.2

This is the unanswered question really. Will people not installing this not be able to go to 2.2 unless they install this first.

I've decided to give rooting my phone a standard htc rom a go instead, just need to have a quick read up on it. I didn't really want to do this but I don't fancy all the crap that Vodafone seem to like putting on the phones.

Manufacturer bloatware.... it's getting almost as bad as what we get on PCs now, but at least on a PC you can very easily just reinstall Windows.

I wouldn't put it past Vodafone to have timed this bloat ware update at the same time as 2.2 to fool people into installing it....

Ahh, wish I had read this thread before I pressed update :(

My phone has been Vodafonised!

Although I am surprised this wasn't done to the phone in the first place. All my previous phones have had Vodafone crap on them when they were new.

I think it will probably be a case of having to install this update before you can get 2.2 if you want to go through Vodafone. :(

Indeed but that would void our voda warranty.
so ? vodafone are useless anyway

when my unbranded (by me) x10 broke(also me...) i sent it back to SE in a jiffy bag on the monday morning and got a new handset through the door on the friday morning

theres people across this forum and others who have waited weeks for vodafone to fix/replace various handsets.

Same for me.

When my Desire broke down, I sent it directly back to HTC in Milton Keynes. All I did was call the support number on HTC's website and mailed it directly to them. Had nothing to do with Vodafone.

Word on the Vodafone forums is that those who've downloaded today's disgrace of an update can no longer unbrand their Desires. Indeed, this has been my experience. So angry I let myself install this
