Almost 10 years since their demise after being swallowed and asset-stripped by nVidia. They pioneered some of the technologies we take for granted - not least, SLI.

This thread is not rose-tinted. They brought about their own demise thanks to mis-timed moves in the market, but nonetheless I'm sure some have fond memories.

It's also brought to you because I found my old Voodoo3 3500TV yesterday. Sadly it's destined for the tip this weekend (though I'd be happy to donate it to a loving home if anyone wants it).

Had the 3500tv too, then a 5500 dual beast, il never forget the massive blue cable everything connected to lol, made me think it was pro haha!

Damn thing was so heavy it'd pull the cable out of the graphics card if you didn't secure it properly! :D

Voodoo class card ,, i had the first one i.e Monster 3d 4mb version then played Quake :D i got the 12mb version later (Voodoo2) on but could not afford a Second 12mb card ,
i was given one last year though and would love to build a retro pc gaming system (well i have all the parts but Cpu).

I do remember the "Click" :D Ahh 3D gaming , nice felling at the time.

I still have a voodoo 1 obsidian board (without the daughter board) and a voodoo 3 2000 PCI (that the memory is fried on I think - last time I tried it it just came up with gibberish).

Well worth it tho :D I remember playing quake 2 and jedi knight for the first time on a proper 3D renderer (Voodoo 1) instead of software (ATI Rage II+)... was just jaw dropping at the time.

what gets me now is My tomtom is just as fast. there is even a doom game can run on it .

still i will never forget 3DFX ..

I found my old Orchid Righteous when clearing out some boxes in the parents cellar a few weeks ago. Keep meaning to plug it in and see if it still works...

Also got a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI somewhere. Was re-flashed with a Mac ROM, can't remember if it got it flashed back to a PC one tho after the Mac got sold...

My phone's 3D hardware is roughly the same specs as my first voodoo 1 board lol... infact better because it has shader support... polygon and pixel fillrates are in the same ballpark.
