*Official OMG I got my 460 thread*

I'm so glad my 8800GT is out of my machine, it consumes loads of power in idle, makes a lot of noise, and overheats readily.

If PhysX becomes important, I might get an GF106 or something depending how they go. Or perhaps might upgrade to an X58 motherboard and go GTX 460 SLI.

Had an absolute nightmare with an out of stock Gigabyte GTX 460. As such, could somebody recommend me the card to get out of:

-KFA2 GTX 460 1GB EX OC edition
-Gainward GTX 460 1GB GS
-Palit Sonic (not Sonic Platinum)
-MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 1GB (£20 more expensive than the others)

Ideally wanna spend around £180

Regards,

The Gigabyte is in stock for £173 ;)

Sorry it is in fact the 768MB version, too much wine last night lol

Lol, s'okay! My order is being processed now from another etailer. I THINK I've bagged the last one in stock as it's OOS now. If it's another horror story I'm just gonna get an MSI and be done with it.

Sorry if this has already been asked but:

Is the noise issue present with the 768mb versions too?

As I'm on a budget and only really game at 1440 x 900 i was looking for a half decent card that'll last me a while and these looked pretty decent. Loud fans do kinda bug me a bit though.

Anyone got any recommendations on the lower ram models and would that be adequate for my res?

Thanks in advance.

Got the MSI 1GB version yesterday and very pleased with it so far. Idle is 24C (weather is a bit cooler here in Scotland at moment), and overclocked to 800/1600 I'm getting 45C in Folding at Home and 49C in Kombustor. (Stock voltage on my card is 0.962)
Some posters have said to run OCCT to tell if your overclock is truly stable, what settings are generally used to do this? (eg fullscreen or not, error checking etc)

I'm a bit of a newbie coming from a MAC. Could you talk me through overclocking it or point me towards an article please?

I'm getting a Gigabyte gtx 460 1gb OC version tomorrow. Not looking for a crazy OC but have been told you can clock to 800mhz core stable with the stock cooling.

Regards,

dosnt matter you just need to check the box that says: Check errors

set it to run NOT full screen for 15 mins watch your temps in MSI afterburner

ANY errors mean you need to back down the mhz or up the voltage.

I'm a bit of a newbie too - but overclocking is made very simple these days. Just download MSI Afterburner (from MSI) and slide the bars until you find something stable. people usually recommend overclocking by small increments but i just went straight to 800/1600/2000 as that seemed like what everyone else was able to achieve on stock voltages.

give it a try and good luck :)

Has anyone got a pair of the 1GB MSI in SLI with no gap between em? I'd be interested to know what temps are like after my failed attempt with a pair of Gigabytes.
