Laptops stolen in transit

Why aren't the courier service using heavy-duty plastic security boxes with security seals on the lid? You can't simply slash the bottom and tape it up again!

This. I had an Acer laptop returned for repair (build quality is shocking) and DHL guy turned up with a large tote box which was well padded inside and I believe sealed on top, may have even had a lock.

well as everyone was slating the 'idiots who didn't back up their stuff before sending it off" i thought it was obvious :p

I was going to suggest the company do this but it may invalidate the warranty, depending on the T&Cs as well.

Out of interest do you have access to the contents of your trailer?

Yes he will as it's the drivers responsibility to make sure his loads is safe before moving off. However, this kind of thing is extremely common in the transport industry. We often had produce stolen or 'swapped' for other stuff both at our depot and at others.

Was going to say the same thing. Back when I was at uni my housemate's HP needed repairs, courier collected it in a large padded case which was then sealed there and then. Quite impressed.

My Acer went to Plymouth 10 times on the back of a DHL van and not once was it stolen, kept sending it as they were refusing to repair it ("no fault found") and in the end I was hoping it would just go missing.

Yes, with the vast majority of loads, I do.

Tesco loads are sealed before we collect them, I would only break the seal if the number did not match that on my paperwork prior to departure, otherwise, I leave it alone.

I hate sealed trailers, as the driver, my load security is my responsibility, if the trailer is sealed, its very hard to check everything is loaded as it should be.

Bottom line, I value my job more than a few cases of whatever.....
