Anyone know much about Taxes when it comes to good shipping?

I'm planning to order some car parts from the states with a total value of around £270.

Is there a way to work out how much i will be taxed, Will i even be taxed, and does anyone know how much ? :D

Duty will be about 5%, depending on what it is, then add 17.5% for VAT, plus the VAT on the shipping and insurance, and then £8-12 parcelforce or ems customs fees, so i'd guess about £60-100 on top of what you paid, depending on the shipping cost.

does the £270 inc shipping ?

you will pay VAT one the 270 plus shipping costs

you may pay import duty but this is hit and miss

you will pay a courier handling fee from about £8 upwards

if you work on between £60 and £80 in total you won't be far wrong

More like "if". I've had shipments internationally of £3-400+ and never been charged VAT/duty/customs fees or anything like that.

I have two parcels worth $1000 each on the way to me atm, really really dreading customs. They used to be lax as hell but recently they've been cracking down. Trying to make up the deficit I guess :p

Yeah i did hear about them getting a bit more harsh, because a lot of friends have had big stuff come over from the states and havent even been touched by the tax man on them.

Ah man , my stuff is coming from California. they have the highest sales tax :(

Yeah :(

Well i think its going to be hit or miss really.

The stuff is coming from a private seller. so im going to ask how hes shipping it to me etc etc and get as much info as i can.
