HD5850 idle @ 50% fan since last driver update

hi, title says it all, since i updated my drivers to the latest ones (10.7 or something) my fan is idling @ 50%

both idle and load. when gpu went to 75, it stood @ 50%. sort of a fixed fan speed.

i only use MSI Afterburner and has a fan profile. don't know why auto is never on unlike before.

See if there is a bios update for your card.

wouldn't that void my warranty? this wasn't the issue with the 10.6 drivers. atleast i never found it at 50 on idle

I have 2 of the XFX 5870 AVP edition cards and from new they ran at 55% fan speed at idle & load.If you go to XFX's site they now have a new bios which fixes this so the card will idle at 30%.The only reason why i used the bios flash method instead of using after burner is that after burner would only change the fan speed on the main card but not the secondry card.

I'd heard of the 5870 and 5970 having problems, wasnt sure if the 5850 suffered as well.

If XFX have an official bios to download then i cant see it voiding the warranty, as they have released it.

where can i get this bios?

Go to XFX's europe site & register your card first,when thats done go into your registered products then click support files, if a bios is available it should be listed there.
