as usual too many cards about!

It does mention the drivers if you look in the test setup bit - it was one of the 195.62 drivers that are generally acknowledged as being crud and not a good indication of nVidia card performance.

yeah just found it in the above link, my bad.

jigger on the the site in question lists the 5770 above the 260 because of the results in supreme commander as shown here.
other than those supreme commander results the 260 is faster in most cases.

So generally trading blows pretty evenly if you ignore the odd game where one spikes a lot higher than the other.

this shows 41 results, 21 wins for the 260 compaired with 20 for the 5770, id say they wer pretty equal?? hardy "most cases"

lol, thanks guys :)

Mainly looking at 2nd hand cards atm and the 260's tend to go for £70ish and the 5770 £90-£100

So looks like 2x 260's if I can, although a 9800GTX+ for >£50 might do :) can allways get a 2nd later I suppose.

Its was the above charts that confused me, certain games seem to make a massive difference to where some cards stand

Thanks again all

Get a 4890, 100 quid and faster than the 5770 and 260, sits around the nvidia 275. Just got one for my brother as he had 100 to spend, there's no faster card for that price :) unless you can snag a 275 somewhere for that, very unlikely tho.

Ive just spent the last few hours running benchmarks.

Looking at both cards and it seems the with the latest drivers, the results show the gap has closed to hardly anything. To say for sure which is the fastest card would take some more testing and drivers might swing the results again. As of right now, the cards seem as close as to make no differance. A few tests have thown up 150 FPS vs 250 FPS type results, looking back it genrally seem ATI have just stopped working on improving on results like this but, Nvidia drivers seem to have contiuned to build upon results. I would have to up the settings / resolution to iron out this type of result and get a proper understanding of the performance of both cards and I cant really be bothered TBH.

A few things to point out. The the Nvida driver took out windows, and the stock GTX260 I planned to use is now unstable.

I run a factory overclocked gainward GTX260 GLH against a ref HD5770 giving the GTX260 a small advantage. I was using a hard with a win 7 install used for clocking a CPU. This install has seen a few BSOD when clocking the CPU so the install may not be 100%. Also the Mobo drivers are whatever win 7 installed.

I'm not going to post the results here because the test is questionable, and lets be honest whats the point. Everything considered I'm currently happy to say its very close between the two from a performance point of view

I have to say omitting the pointlessly high FPS results would probably make enough difference to alter a rounded up total of frames per second and leaving them in might make the GTX260 seem a little faster than it really is.

This is not the site I was thinking of, but it seem a similar sort of idea.

Too many beers again Jigger? :p

Sounds like you've got a cracking test bed there, what with dodgy blue screening installs and default windows mobo drivers, good job!

I await your benchmark results with great anticipation ;)

Well, I'm not a betting man but I would have lost my money there! :D Sorry Jiggsy. :)

Arise Sir Jigger! :D

No problem. Its become quite a myth and everyone makes mistakes.

Its just same group of people keep on making the same mistakes over, and over, and over and... :p
