I often toy with the idea of going back to some gaming on the pc.
the following spec is of a pc i could get.
the graphics card isnt the best but its what is with the system.
I want your advice on what it could achieve in gaming terms.
I know its hard for you guys but i dont want any advice such as " if you just added this card it would so much better ect" lol.

i mainly like my fps games.

so here is the spec:

PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 860 (2.80GHz, 8MB)

OPERATING SYSTEM
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit- English

MEMORY 6144MB (2x2GB) (2x1GB)1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Memory

HARD DRIVE
1TB Serial ATA (7200RPM) Hard Drive

GRAPHICS CARD
Single 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTS 240 (1366x768)

£800

yes i know its cheaper to build one but i cant and dont wish to, infact i'd rather eat a broken glass sandwich.
alls i want to eventualy do is click buy and wait for the delivery van to turn up.

(1366x768) at that res it'll run all the source games (css/l4d/l4d2/lh2/episodes) no problem

with slightly low aa settings it'll do the cod games fine, and if you don't mind lowering a few other settings it should run bc2 at an acceptable framerate.

Yup, medium settings for most games, low for demanding ones.
High and medium if you built your own, for the £800 mark. ;)

You would be better looking at one of the i3 or i5 systems with a better graphics card which will be cheaper anyway. Graphics card is the one item you can't get around needing.

That's some crazy-ass RAM setup there, or is it just me? I would have guessed that most, if not all, 1366 chipset boards run triple-channel. I don't like knowledge that does not conform to my limited experience.

yeah the ram looks a bit weird.

all this new fangled ddr3 stuff though god knows :p

Come on we can talk someone round into eating a glass sandwich, surely. :p

Or just pressing"configure" then "buy" and wait for the delivery van :p

yes guys i could choose an i5 and drop a £150 to £200 graphics card in it for the same price.

that will be far better. Just get something with a GTX 460 1GB or a 5850 and it will be much better than your original i7/GT 240 in all games.

Definitely, you'll see vastly improved performance with a better graphics card coupled with an i5. Also I'd drop to 4GB RAM if you're on a budget, you dont need more than that.

You will need a better graphics card for sure. Don't worry about the CPU TOO much. The CPUs of today are so far ahead that they have little impact on framerate.

Agreed, an i7 is way overpowered for such a puny GPU, something like an i5 and 5770/GTX 460 would be better.

Strongly recommend getting a complete system from OcUK. You're unlikely to get more bang for your buck than their overclocked bundles, and you know the OC's gonna be professional and stable. If you're absolutely sure you don't want to do it yourself, and I reckon you really should, go for their prebuilt systems over pretty much any competitor that I've seen in recent years - value for performance is fantastic.

I'm in ur forumz, pluggin ur productz
