surely the sony LED screen on the new desire's puts it right out of the running for you lot ?

nexus one has to be considered over it. oled screen , less hassle to upgrade for everyone , noise cancelling , generally just better support.

Nexus One has stock Android which isn't as good as Android with Sense UI.

Email client on stock Android is terrible, stock contacts application is far behind Sense's, Sense's camera application has more features and settings - this is to name just a few improvements HTC have put in.

Better support? Did you not see all the complaints about there being no Google support when the Nexus was launched?

I'm confused because I have a desire and it has an optical trackball...

Desire = optical track pad

Nexus One = physical track ball

Andy has an X10, most people recommend the Desire (because its better and therefore more popular), he likes to be special and recommend the Nexus One instead as less people have it.
