just had my renewal through and £7 a month more than last year for the same cover with another years no claims 7 in total.

breakdown

comprehensive cover at £355.34
full rac breakdown cover including home start £64
Legal protection £20

it's with cis who do deals with RAC for the breakdown.

I did do some quotes online tho and also looked at confused etc etc most were coming back with at least £550 premiums for the same cover and thats without breakdown cover.

So should i stick with this or try one of those companies that beat other genuine quotes. Also is it now worth protecting my no claims at this point having 7 years is a lot.

by the way i'm 27,no convictions, crashes, tickets etc etc
and the car is an 06 Zafira 1.6 Active

Don't pay monthly.... Pay it up front if you can afford, if not, put it on a 0% purchases credit card and pay some off every month.

Not really an option due to bad credit history and don't really have spare money to pay it upfront.

Can't get a credit card to do it i tried a couple of months back

Surely buying breakdown cover with insurance is always an awful deal. You can usually get it so much cheaper with tesco clubcard points or cashback websites.

Or even your bank.... I know barclays offer an account for so much a month that has RAC cover amongst other things..

It seems a lot of people have been stung with insurance this year. I think it might have something to do with the new insurance groups, theres now 50 instead of 20.

OP would be better off shopping round most likely. Its a convenience thing, Ive found the same insurer will offer less if you just go on their own site for a quote

Can anyone say how long no claims stands after an insurance policy expires. Say you were out of the country for 7 years would your ncb still count, I heard anything upto 5 years later is ok to continue

It must be your area or something, my 1.9 Zaf dag dag came in at £178 base price, £213 with mods/options declared, that's 7 years no claims, it's only £189 if I change my DOB to match your age..

My renewal was £180 more for the 2 cars this year, which as usual I used the comparison sites to get better quotes and got them to match those, in the end it was only a £3.20 rise from last year, so quite happy with that.

Well spent some time today getting other quotes and no one can touch my renewal price with a barge pole

my insurer is at the top but that is still £50 more than my renewal they sent me through the post i also rang them earlier and they said they cannot go any lower as they are offering me an additional 10% off already for going back with them if i choose too.

Try a few different comparison sites as the same cover from the same insurer will still vary in price. Worth checking the the guide on MSE. Otherwise, Firstdirect claim to offer a 10% price beat, but take care to check the cover includes everything you expect.

It varies by insurer, but in my experience most won't carry it over if it's more than a year since your last policy. Previously I've lost all 3 yrs NCB because I didn't really need my own car at the time and gave it away. 2 yrs later had to start again from scratch, despite being an active named driver on our other vehicle and having no accidents in the meantime. If I'd realised I would have simply kept my original car for those 2 yrs as 5 yrs NCB would have made a massive difference on the new policy (moved to much higher ins group 4->33 )

The exception is if you cancel a policy before renewal and later come back to the same insurer. In this case they will usually be a little more flexible in carrying your NCB, expecially if you'd previously been with them for a few years.

Had a renewal from Churchill today. Fair enough that I have upgraded from a 99 Civic 1.4 to a Celica TSport 04 but I've premium has gone to £700 last year (incl. all additions like breakdown etc) to £1100 at least. No claims and even an extra year's ncb. Utterly stupid.

New quotes give me around £700-800.

I'm only on my second year of driving... My renewal quote was £1200.. Confused showed the cheapest was admiral at £1450...

I rung them up and they offered £1125

Try ringing some of the cheaper quotes from confused.. If you click the quote it should give you their number.
