Well, rather unexpectedly I'm left in a situation that means I will be moving out of the parent's home, and into my own in a few weeks.

While earning around £20k running a 25mpg car that likes to break down for fun is fine while living with the 'rents, unfortunately not with all the bills of my own place on top of that!

So in spite of the fact I love the 620ti, it has gone, to be replaced with a massively boring Rover 600 diesel. It's saving grace is that it's the SLDi version, which means it has quite a few options (2nd from top of the line).

- Air conditioning
- Recaro interior
- Headlamp washer jets
- All round electric windows
- It isn't broken :p

On the plus side it was cheap, and for it's 155k miles is in good condition.

And best of all, it runs on this:

60p / litre for fuel, and 50mpg :)

I noticed an odd noise coming from the cambelt area, so went to pick up a tensioner and idler, as well as a new belt. Easy job to replace, as you don't need to lock any pulleys (fuel pump is driven from the cambelt, so provides a good 'lock').

Turns out the tensioner was seized, and the idler had a real roughness to it too!

Haynes and 6 sided sockets:

Nice new tensioner fitted, this one isn't seized. :p

Will update as work goes on :)

You said it wasn't broken and then immediately launched into issues you have had to fix on day 1?

NICE ONE!

Feel free not to answer but curiosity has gotten the better of me, but what has prompted the unexpected moving out of the rents? Hope every things is OK.

I don't see how this is any more immensely dull and boring than the rest of the stuff you owned. Infact how is it any different to the MG ZS TD thing (In terms of concept, I'm aware of the difference between a ZS and a 400).

I always do the cambelt on any 2nd hand car I get, just this one needed it a bit more urgently than usual. It's not like a cambelt isn't a service item, is it

It's all good cheers dude, missus is living with me and the rents, and we'd like our own space to make our own :)

It's a 600, not a 400. :)

That doesnt sound very unexpected. It sounds the most expected thing in the universe.

Yea thanks Sherlock. Let me spell it out for you.

You owned a tediously boring, slow, noisy yet economical diesel powered ultra cheap scabby Rover diesel. It was an MG ZS.

Why do you now have another? Why didnt you just use that one.

wow.. :/ you really need to move on from rovers.. i bet you are the sort of person that gets something.. and then sticks for the rest of his life with same thing.. ?

Pack your rolleyes away, son. Items requiring an immediate fix or terminal engine failure will result = broken.

Completely understandable, but surely its better to do it in a planned and organised manner?! If you have had a fight with the lady over it dont go making rash decisions to please her otherwise she will walk all over you all the time. Moving out is a big step, especially if its your first time?

That's not quite a few options, it's 4 options. I've been in more luxurious vans.

I could see what appealed in the 600 turbo, but this really is utter rubbish. I bet the sheer act of changing costs more than you'll save on the running costs, by which I mean almost every car has something to mend, nobody gets rid of a car for no reason.

His fuel bill will almost quarter. Double mpg and half price fuel.

Fair play I say however it does seem the OCUK boys are out in force.

things will go wrong on that car too, sometimes its better the devil you know. running a cheap turd on veg oil and it HOPEFULLY being cheap to pot around in is a good thing.
no fun tho, no fun at all!
