Lying about religious beliefs to girlfriend's family

When one person is deluded, it's called insanity.

When thousands of people are deluded, it's called relgion.


You're an ahteist and be proud that you are. Being atheist is as much a belief as being a christian or being jewish, you shouldn't have to alter your beliefs to impress those who choose to delude themselves with a book.
 
Are you sure you're an athiest? You've looked into every religion and can say for definate that you believe God does not exist for certain? Many people are actually agnostic.
 
Just tell them the truth, religion is a joke, tell them to stop bible bashing and get a life. Religion is for saddos. Funny actually, makes me laugh how when something lucky happens like lightning just misses someone by a inch or someone falls out of a window and survives the sad bible bashing gimps say " that was down to god " but then when something bad happens they say nothing. Tell them you have no reason to belive in something that theres NO PROOF OF. And to stop reading a crappy little book and get a life. :)

I'm quite certain, but I really don't want a debate about it. I have spent a lot of time thinking about it though.

Fair enough though, each are entitled to their own opinion. I thought I was athiest before I studied with Jehovah's Witnesses.
 
BLAH BLAH BLAH, extremely sad. Bible is pathetic. Haha that reminds me of something, stayed in a hotel a few months back, ran out of toilet paper so used the bible pages that was out of the draw hahaha. thats all its good for.

Oh the irony of telling someone their beliefs have no proof of while demanding they follow an alternative set of beliefs that there is also no proof of...

Back to the OP, only you can decide whether your the girl is worth the lie, if indeed you feel that you are betraying something here by implying to her parents that you believe/go to church or whatever.

A big part of relationships is compromise and working around problems, but we can't tell you whether this is something you can compromise on or not, and it wouldn't be fair of me to try to tell you what to do, because it's not my situation...
 
Not really dolph, i dont follow an alternative set of beliefs, i dont follow any. Why think something is real just cos others do. Pile of crap.
 
Im not really looking for a pro/anti Christianity debate, just getting people's views on the idea of having to lie about it.

I think I'll bite the bullet for the first instance at least and just say something about Church of England and say "I dont really like to talk about my beliefs" if I get much else.

You do realise your behaviour is no different from that that the OP is so worried about from his girlfriend's parents... Apart from your beliefs are different.

Atheism is no more provable than theism, if you don't want to hold any beliefs, atheism isn't the right position to take, being an active disbelief in the existence of god(s), it's no more provable than an active belief in the existence of god(s). Both positions can only be taken on faith or assumptions taken a priori.

after all who give a **** if you hurt your girlfriends feelings and make it incredibly uncomfortable for her to be with her family.

Not like she needs them.

They may not even ask, she just doesn't want you mentioning that you are an atheist if they do ask.

Its not a big lie, just keeps the peace. :)
