Morning all!

I have a very nice MSI 5850 765/1125 which I have had running @ 950/1150 1.2 for months. The temps have never gone above 74`C.

UNTIL.........

I replaced my Arctic Freezer with a H50 (Push/Pull) and reinstalled Windows. Now my temps are hitting 80`C @ stock after 20 mins of Kombuster.

I am using the same drivers (10.5) but a newer version of Afterburner (1.61 now was 1.51).

Obviously I have lost a 120mm exhaust fan on the back and replaced it with 2 x 120mm on the H50 drawing air in. Even so the temps are a concern. I have a Fractal R2 case with 2 x 140mm exhaust (Roof), 2 x 120mm intake (Front) and 1 x 120mm intake (bottom).

Has losing the rear exhaust really caused this temp rise or am I missing something?

Possibly the newer version of Afterburner giving different temp?

Anyone had similar issues after installing the H50?

Thanks guys, I've left her on stock at the moment but really want to get her back to her former glory as I want to turn on HBAO and 4 x AA on BC2 again :D

P.S My original overclock is still stable it just gets to warm now.

Did you run a custom fan profile on the 1.51 version? When you installed 1.61 it may have defauled to stock fan profile.

And as above, kombuster does properly cook the gpu. Its much less in game. Use gpuz in the background whilst playing bf and see the temp after you finish.

That could/would make sense as this is the firs time I've used Kombustor. I think I used Futuremark to test temps before.

I will load up my original overclock and run BC2 for a few hours and report back.

Out of interest what is the max temp the 5850 can take ?

yeah I had a custom fan profile before but it never went higher than 42%, now even if I set the fan at a constant 48% (getting really loud) it still hits 78-80% (overclocked)

Hello ooEy

Try changing the direction of the radiator so that hot air is exhausted instead. That may be the issue since hot air is heating the back of your fellow HD5850.

As mattgal said, its probably due to the change in airflow through the case. Try the h50 as exhaust and previous fan configuration if you changed any others, most people only notice a few degrees higher on the cpu, but better case airflow from this.
