The Human Race 'Must Colonise Space Or Face Extinction'

well thew point would be to escape earth because of impending doom.

if you only send 32 people

dont all of those 6bn become existinct leaving just those 32 people?

who gets to be in the 32? would one of the people who know they are not one of the 32 purposely sabotage the craft of the 32?

that could be quite a good film...can humans save themselves, or will human nature of green, envy etc kill the entire species?

I you had to vote/choose 32 people to go and colonise a planet in space.

Who comes into mind ?

edit: let me ask this differently which 32 forum members would you want to colonise space LOL.

True, but a single export is never enough for capitalists. If demand falls then you're doomed.

You could assemble stuff on the moon and launch from there saving loads of money.
If you could make some of the materials on the moon that would be even better.

I you had to vote/choose 32 people to go and colonise a planet in space.

Who comes into mind ?

No one, as they would have to be vetted.
need strong genes and no family heridatry problems and know certain aspects. Like you would need doctors, engineers and other such people and ideally. they would need to know several areas. Not something you can just pick.

Name a single other species that kills thousands of other members of it's species over trivial matters.

Ants, monkeys, pretty much everything that's capable of it, and the rest tend to kill each other via starvation.

At least humans have (generally) moved past eating their own children.

Famine is not a trivial matter, as there's nothing they can do about it. There's countless things we can do about the problems in the world now.

Thought this might interest some.

Steven Spielberg is filming a movie at the moment, which seems to be about nibiru LOL

A rogue planet is on a collision course for Earth, and mass hysteria of biblical proportions breaks out in the streets. But when a billionaire astronomer discovers a second rogue planet accompanying the first capable of sustaining life , he plans to build a rocket to transport a small group of people to the planet in order to populate it and ensure survival of the human race.

We would obviously have to take people that are heterosexual to repopulate.

Homosexuals/lesbians are quite capable of reproducing with a member of the opposite sex, they just don't want to :-)

I don't get this idea of abandoning earth, its ridiculous, we should take better care of it through understanding and technology, limit population and increase the standard of living for everyone, space colonization could help with this.

1: The earth wont last forever, regardless of how well we look after it.
2: What's the obsession with "saving" it anyway? It's just another resource there to be exploited by the human race - as long as it lasts long enough for us to find a viable alternative, what's the issue?

dont all of those 6bn become existinct leaving just those 32 people?

I'm sorry, I'm still not getting your point.

Myself, obviously :-)

Tefal beat me to it.

But you don't do you?

You no doubt live in moderate luxury in this country maybe give some to charity but that's it.

You like all those dirty capitalists are unwilling to sacrifice the majority of your luxuries but still enough to be comfortable to save hundreds (if not thousands) of lives abroad.

But don't feel bad about it that's just how we're made.

The Earth will last forever from the point of view of our species. We can expect several mass extinctions and the re-evolution of the planet's plants and animals before the Sun is a problem.

2+2=4

back on this for a second, wouldn't it be better to produce hundreds/thousands of pre screened and fertilized embryos (not related to the original crew) and use them as surrogates. and a planned order for the embryos)

That way you avoid all the genetic and you know incestuous issues.

32 highly trained astronauts/engineers who not many people will have heard of probably.

you can train most people to fly a plane, you cant teach everyone leadership, fast thinking or the 'hero' gene.

how would picking a load of engineers and astronaughts exemplify the best of the human race?

No one, as they would have to be vetted.

so who is fit to make that decision? i dont even trust the government to do whats right for England, let alone the world?!

like clones of the perfect candidate?

ive seen a film about this somewhere, its called, 'moon' you should watch it.

believe it or not but airforce/nasa commanders whose job it is to lead space missions might just have good leadership skills, and to qualify as an astronaut you've gotta be pretty smart and quick on your feet. (mentally and physically)

It doesn't it's just you need them to run the space ship/the base/all the equipment.

No point having the worlds greatest artist if he can't perform maintenance on a fuel cell.

so who is fit to make that decision? i dont even trust the government to do whats right for England, let alone the world?!

Well whoever has trained them and gone "right well to run the ship we need these people. Unfortunately so and so is unable to go in to space so we'll have to go with our second choice." etc etc
