Hi all, im looking to buy a refurbished laptop. I only have a budget of £470.

But looking at it, it seems i can get a pretty good laptop for that when its refurbished.

Can someone help me with which laptop i should get? It will be used for general things such as internet, word, photoshop but i would also like to use it for gaming. Nothing extreme but a game such as Guild Wars 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 on average/low settings.

I'v seen one with specs of.....

ACER Aspire 5740G-334G32Mn

Intel® Core® i3-330M 2.13Ghz
4GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470
320GB H/d
Windows 7 home premium

Is that powerful?

Remove the competitors, and please read the FAQ.

You must not mention any of OcUK;s competitors, either by linking or the name.

If you do it before a mod comes along, you will be fine . . . .

apologies, re-edited.

Also, iv read the i3 is not a good processor for gaming? When i say gaming i dont mean in the "ultra gamer" sense. I mean, once every couple of days i might decide to have a game on guild wars 2 (when it comes out) and want it to run decently.

that would be more than adequite for what you want to do, and for that price, its a good deal.

I reciently bought a Dell 13z with the Geforce G105M and 4gb DDR3 for £380. You can get some pretty sweet deals for under £500

Well even though i wont be extreme gaming. I obviously want to get the best bang for my buck so to speak.

What sort of things should i be looking for? for the £450-470 refurbished laptop budget. The only thing i know is i3 is newer but considered the weakest of the new processors and that i need a proper graphics card and to avoid intregrated

Try the Dell outlet. I've just picked up a Dell Studio 17 with an I5-520m, ATI 5650, 4gb ram, 500gig 7200rpm hd and 17" 1400x900 screen for 550 including delivery.

Just keep checking there every day and there's usually some excellent deals on there.

The video card tends to bottleneck way before the processor, so getting a better processor will not make much difference to games.

i have no idea about stuff like this lol pretend your telling your gran (who for some wierd reason has become addicted to MMORPG's)

Have no clue which laptop graphics card is good, which processor is good. I know the barebone basics. Ie; newer processor is better than older & avoid interegated graphics.

I'd obviously like a new one but i know for the gaming requirments thats next to impossible on my budget so im completely fine about having a refurbished one (those things can barely be called 2nd hand, almost brand new themselves)

And OMG dantheman THANKS! looking on there now and i cant believe theres sooooooo many i5 and i7's there for my budget!!

Now.... which one is good lol

•Studio 1749
•Intel Core i5 Processor 430M(2.26GHz,3MB cache)

•Optical Drive : 8X DVD+/-RW Drive including Roxio Burn software

How long did yours take to arrive from the Outlet? I've ordered a nice Studio 15 (i5-430M, 4Gb RAM, ATI 5450, 320Gb HD) for £410, but the estimated delivery date is 'up to' 18th August :(

If that's around the budget in your original post, I'd say it's excellent.

Ordered on 03/08/10, due to arrive tomorrow according to courier's tracker and the e-mail I received today.

i think i understand the concept of that outlet now. That system i posted has already dissapeared. I guess its the "get me now or im gone" system, being that cheap. :(

Like theres people sat there watching it waiting for the bargain of the century to appear then its snapped up and gone within minutes?
