Hi.

Found an old camcorder in the garage loft the other day which has taped vids of the kids at birth etc. I would like to transfer these to DVD via my pc but have no idea. Can someone tell me how to do this and what software i will need etc. I have posted links below to the camera with a lead i found in the case. The camera has two slots, one is for a A/V cable and the other says Mic. I have also posted a pic of my TV Card in the back of my PC for you guys to look at.

Any help is very appreciated.

Not what you wanted but I'm guessing you can just play it on the TV? My dad got all our tapes on DVD by playing them on the TV and getting the DVD player to record it. Might be easier if you have access to a DVD recorder.

Looking at the cable appears to be mono sound (1 channel) you can capture video fine to your machine via the TV card providing the composite is a input, if not, you will need a s-video to composite converter. To capture the audio you will need to feed it into your sound card or TV card and you will again need a phono to 3.5mm jack.

PS. I take it your camcorder does not have a USB or i-link port?

Looking at the video camera lead you can just plug it straight into the "comp" port on your tv card then get an RCA(Phono) to 3.5mm audio lead for a few quid from your local audio/hifi shop. Then use your TV Card software to capture to AVI so you can edit it before sticking it into a program to convert to dvd. That is if you dont have a DVD recorder :P

i'd go with the dvd recorder method, then pull it onto the pc from there.

i know it appears easy enough as there are input connections there (it's a tv card, they ALL should be input!) but your gonna need either the composite to svideo adapter (more than just a cable!) or one of them modulator thingies.

i know cos i've been in this situation.

one more thing, when you get the footage, store it somewhere in it's native resolution, i didn't and have only a 3GPP video of my son's birth, but i got a shed load of photos so it ain't so bad.

Hi, i have got it going... looksquite good, trouble is though no audio..?

no audio...

try popping the little audio jack i see there into your MIC socket...

might not work, worth a try though.

I have the yellow plug in my card and the black one in the cam. this gives me a picture, i guess the white is the audio and i need an adaptor so it will fit into the sound card..
