Are some people just incapable of overtaking bicycles?

Driving back home today I got stuck behind some woman in a small hatchback who just wouldn't overtake the bicycle in front of her.

Now I'd understand it if the road itself was narrow, or she was in a large car and there was oncoming traffic, but I'm not being funny the road was so wide the council could change the road lay out from a single lane each way to 3 lanes (2 one way 1 the other) You know the type of road.

Anyway I give her the benefit of the doubt and thought I'd be patient as we were on a mildly twisty bit, and I knew there was a nice piece of straight road coming up. So we get to the straight bit of road, there’s no oncoming traffic, I'm expecting her to overtake and..................... and.................. Nothing, didn't even attempt it. So there we are bicycle being followed by this woman and me behind her doing 15-20mph max on a National limit wide straight road with no oncoming traffic.

Well I just couldn't take it any more so I over took her. I look at her while overtaking and her face is all

Seriously are some people just incapable or just afraid of overtaking bicycles, even when it’s completely safe to do so???????

Sorry of the rant but it just really annoyed me after spending 170 quid on a new tyre, thanks to getting a screw in the original which still had 6mm of tread on it. Yay for 18 inch MINI run flats.

Had a similar issue today. Driving behind a learner who didn't think it was neccessary to indicate to swerve half-way into my lane to overtake a cyclist! I breaked in time but it was close!

Next time apply some pressure to the middle of the steering wheel ;)

Non overtakers do make me wonder though. I often drive back late at night along the a449, a very wide single carriageway NSL road. For about 2/3rd of a mile before the Gailey roundabout it switches to a 2 lane dual carriageway. Very often people will follow me for miles and miles on this big empty road then overtake as soon as they get to the dually, WTF?

I made a thread a while back about some old lady that wouldn't overtake a horse.

Drives me ****ing mental, if a horse or cyclist is on the road they're clearly confident enough for you to drive past them at their speed +5mph.

Why the ****ing horse rider decided that 8.25am on a weekday was an excellent time to go and RIDE A HORSE AROUND THE STREETS is beyond me as well.

moron + moron =

I've never hit a cyclist but I have had them crash into me when I was driving a few tonnes of mercedes sprinter in central london. I was stationary every time and so were most of the surrounding vehicles. Always gave me a giggle when it didn't make me jump out of my skin :)

I dont know how some of these people pass their driving tests. It really boggles the mind.

Was taking out mate's gf for a driving lesson yesterday evening. She wouldn't overtake a jogger. A jogger of all things, who was firmly planted to one side. Took her....what...20-25 full seconds to (I guess) muster up the courage to "overtake" said jogmeister.

I was embarrassed just being there.

Minus the not indicating that's the correct way to overtake a cyclist, however I doubt the not indicating impressed his instructor lol
