40mph and came off my 'new' road bike.
Luckly I flew in to a softish hedge/bush. The bike however has damage on the 105 shifter covers :( can these be replaced? and the rear wheel is slightly buckled. Ive had to loosen the rear brake.

plus

On the way home a 5yr old kid crossed the road without looking (and where was his parents) my limited back brake locked the wheel and now I have a flat spot on the tyre.

Not a good start really.

its a focus Focus Variado Expert Compact 2010

As has been said you can replace the hoods with hudz or you can get your lbs to order oem replacements.

A flat spot after one lock-up is surprising; what tyres have you got on there. iPeds cause me to lock-up all the time in London. You've got to watch out for them. I've had an order of magnitude more incidents with peds than I've ever had with drivers. They use their ears instead of eyes.

Just do a search for 105 5600 Hudz, get some nice white ones to match the Focus

Spot on thanks, more worried about the wheel buckling after a short stint on gravel... not the best wheels obviously.

edit - actualy looking on google, its not the brake hood, (rubber part) its the most top part of the brake where it says '105'

Ah, I'd only worry about that when you cone to sell since if you have to turn it over for impromptu repair it's just going to get scratched again. The occasionally come up in eBay but your lbs should be able to get them.

[DOD]Asprilla - thanks - Ive found some on the net, £5 each. I dont normally turn bikes upside down as have a bike stand.

I don't notmally turn it upside down as I've got a bike stand. That doesn't help me when I'm 50k from home though since it doesn't fit in my saddle bag.

I've got some spares, but I'm only going to swap them over when I come to sell the bike or the shifters.

why so coy about the first crash? what happened - your very lucky to get away with a slightly bent wheel and scratched hoods at 40!

and peds are such a pain - I get more and more tempted to just shoulder barge them, but then I'd be in the wrong...

Have alook at the top speed, and the corner I came off.

I was 'racing' two mates coming down a steep hill, I wasn’t concentrating at a sharp right hand corner at the bottom. Didn’t realise that even when the rear wheel locked, as the tyres are wafer thing you keep going... and going... and going

I guess I'll take this as a learning experience. :o

The Rim has been trued today, cost me £10, and I have the 105 covers on order £6 each. So not 'that' bad.

I can just picture you with your stand tucked under your arm as you commute :p.

Maybe your brakes need adjusting? If I have to slam on my brakes and I do it properly, I stop fairly quickly.

Glad to hear you are ok. I can fully understand and sympathise with it as well as on my very first commute in 2008 I fell off about half a mile from my house.

A car overtook me/tried to squeeze past me as an arctic was coming the other way. She left it far too late, I have no idea what on earth she was thinking on trying to get past at that particular time. It was either ding the lorry head on or swerve into me.

She chose the later.

I kinda knew it was coming so I swerved as well. Hit the kerb with my front wheel and went down on its side ( luckily not the side with the mech ). Stood up and shook meself down. Bit of a sore knee, but was more concerned about the bike. Picked that up and looked up to see the car casually driving off up the road without a thought about me. Nice. Bike had scuffed front and rear quick release levers and the left crank had a scuff at its leading edge, but not too bad, quite minor really. Left Ultegra SPD-SL had a scuff too but it polished out.

My Probike Kit jacket and bib tights were minging!!. Grass stains all up the side of me as well as scuffs and deeply ingrained dirt/tarmac marks.
