FAO: All Vodafone Desire Users

Word on the Vodafone forums is that those who've downloaded today's disgrace of an update can no longer unbrand their Desires. Indeed, this has been my experience. So angry I let myself install this

This is incorrect. I installed it but have since rooted and put on a custom mod and am not branded anymore.

Grrrrrrrr! I did this update just now, I had no clue it was going to put that vodafone 360 ******** all over the phone.. I was getting suspicious why i updated once for around 19 meg.. and then had another update for the same size when I thought it was going to be over 90.. what an absolute pain in the ass, I had no desire (hah) at all to root my phone as it seemed pretty much perfect - i just wanted to try out the new features.. but now I have no choice as I'm not putting up with it.. really frustrating.

Does this also lock the phone to vodafone?

I didn't upgrade - I'm sorry people, but anyone who upgraded with a filename beginning 1.9 or was it 1.19, why did you think this was going to be an update to 2.2?
Anyway, I notice I'm no longer being offered the upgrade - maybe its been pulled?

A Vodafone splash screen, a couple of 360 apps and some bookmarks that you can delete anyway?

I don't know what the fuss is about this update.

Although, if you want to put custom roms on then it's a problem as there is no process to do this with hboot 0.80 that comes with the new update. Damn HTC for fixing security flaws! :-)

A Vodafone splash screen
No problem with that

a couple of 360 apps
A load of apps people didn't want or weren't given the choice to install and that mostly don't work properly!. Also a lot of people including myself were forced into removing apps I do use in order to install the update that we thought was froyo

and some bookmarks that you can delete anyway?
Some questionable bookmarks at that...

Finally, a light at the end of the tunnel...

Hi everyone

We’ve listened to feedback from customers on a number of points around the recent 360 Android 2.1 update and made some changes to the roll out plan.

The Android 2.2 update for Vodafone HTC Desire users will be based on the HTC open market version of the software and we will customise it to ensure our network settings are installed.

For customers who have downloaded the recent 360 update for Android 2.1, we can confirm that the Android 2.2 update will remove the 360 applications and will leave the homepage and bookmarks on your current settings.

Customers who want to access the 360 services will be able to do so once the Android 2.2 compatible version is available and, in the meantime, can now download apps like 360 People from the Android Marketplace.

We plan to make the 360 apps available in a separate update for the HTC Desire at a later date, giving customers the choice to download it.

We will let you know when the date for delivery of the Android 2.2 update is finalised, but, subject to testing, we expect this to be in 7-10 days time.

Thanks
