I'm after a new card but don't to change any other components just yet.

So whats the best card I could run on the below spec?

Tagan Easycon 480w Modular PSU (2x 12v rails 20a on each)
MSI P35 Neo FR
Q6600 @ 3.6ghz
4gb 1200mhz DDR2 Ram
XFX 4850 1gb
4x Seagate 320gb HDD's (Raid 0)
X-Fi Platinum
PCI Firewire Card
5 USB Devices
4x 120mm Fans (3 pin Mobo powered)
1x DVD-RW

Now its run the above flawlessly for the last couple of years but I feel an update to GPU is now required as I can feel the 4850 struggling with a couple of the newer games with the eye-candy turned on.

X-Fire is not an option due to the P35 chipset.

Also don't mind dipping into the used market and does'nt have to be ATI.

What should I look for?

I loved my Tagan!

Pretty sure with those strong rails you could put a GTX 460 in there. Only needs 28A / 450W. There would be ample 'room' left for the rest of your needs.

GTX 470 needs 38A I believe so a fine line, espeically with being well under the minimum power requirement for that card (550W).

FYI I will be running a GTX 460 on a 600W CM iGreen (38A / 3x +12V).

I run a 460 on my rig, with a 550 watt PSU, no worries.

if you're looking for lower power and high gaming then look at the HD cards - 5850 being a good option

That reckons I need 470W PSU, I have a 520W one.

However, total load draw from the socket, including speakers and 24" LCD, never breaks 300W.

Unbelievably it recommends:

What do you use to test whats its drawing from the socket Krooton?

for some reason i did a hypothetical PSU test, Phenom II X6 running at 4Ghz, three sticks of DDR3, GTX 465 (460 isn't there), two SATA hard disks, one optical drive (DVD-RW) and it suggests wait for it...33W PSU, something tells me thats not right! :D

Edit: refresh fixed it, lol was quite shocked by the whole 33W business, was about to say 'most efficient PC ever!'

I have one of those readers that sits between the plug and the socket.

My TV, monitor, and microwave all pull the wattage in their specs within 5%.

Machine in sig (with a Q9550 @ 3.8Ghz rather than the E8500) pulls 180w at idle, and 300w at load (this includes monitor and speakers, as they are all hooked up to an extension lead, which is then plugged in to the wattage reader.)

i heard a while ago that PCs never draw what these testers say, had this system running on a 380W PSU a while ago, the one that came with me case, antec PSU, earth something. so why do so many places say for 8800GTS you need at least such and such watts if you don't?
