...about scousers, but apparently it happens and it can happen anywhere.

My mates came out of their house this morning to drive to the airport and forn their 5 Series on bricks, in Ascot. Apparently they are the 9th 5 Series in the area to be hit in the last 7 days.

I thought locking wheel nuts were supposed to have put a stop to this kind of thing?

There are too many easy ways to remove locking wheel nuts. I reckon proximity and tilt sensors on your alarm are probably more effective.

Locking wheel nuts are only designed to put off the casual thief, if you know how to remove them it won't even slow you down.

The fact you can go into BMW and get a locking nut remover for £5 makes it even easier. :D

I did get the parts bloke to come out to the car with a selection to try on my car. I'm sure you can get them without any real problems though.

Its a bit of a joke really but like i said its a deterrent only, I'm not sure how many combinations of keys VW have but i ordered a new key though my VW independant without ANY issue, i'm sure its very easy to build up a collection by visiting scrapyards etc.

i dont have locking wheel nuts. id rather they just take the wheels than break in as well to find the key which i never actually kept in the car

If they're only after the wheels they're probably opportunists. I can't imagine them breaking into a house to find a locking wheel nut key.

On this subject, McGuard nuts are ****ing tough - I don't think I've heard of a modern Ford losing its wheel nuts, and I had to order a replacement key with the unique serial number all the way from Germany with a minimum 2 week wait (4 weeks in my case!), after I could not remove them with either the typical socket and hammer approach, nor a locking wheel nut removal kit. (This was on the Mondeo, not the ST).

Or even more convenient just pop into Halfords who sell the kits!

My current car doesn't have locking nuts, don't think I'll bother getting any for it either.

I take it that they found this piece of information afterwards? I assume that the police told them?

Would it not have been somewhat nice fo the Police to have informed the public that there was a spate of them being nicked, so that people could make arrangements to move their cars?

no no no, too simple, the police were hoping to get to the TENTH 5SERIES HIT style shocker headlines, don't get that far by informing people of stuff do you :)

I think so, I'm getting the story second hand ad the moment.

How would the Police inform the public? Letters, knocking on doors, find the owners of every 5 Series and ring them up, put something ona website that very few people would check?

It's not really a very easy thing to do.
