So, assuming I haven't missed anything here, the HIS 5850 is a pretty good deal on here, and I should be able to squeeze it into my case and run it on my psu. Gonna bung my 5770 on MM nice and cheap to fund it so once payday rolls round this is gonna happen.

My question: is there any reason I should not purchase this card?

Cheers for replies.

Good point, but the performance difference isn't significant enough for me to want to worry about PSU and heat output (my case is rubbish for cooling) or the extra £30. Thank you for showing me a compelling option though.

I have one and am very happy with it, but remember you cant alter the voltage on the HiS iCooler 5850 cards.

This was my main concern, considering that they are known to clock well I'll definately be pushing it a bit. How far do they go on stock volts? My sapphire 5770 went from 850/1200-960/1325 on stock (needed a bump up for 985 where it hit a wall) so if I could get similar gains I'd be happy. Can anyone offer their experiences on stock volts OCing on these cards?

I have mine stable at 875 1250 thats from 725 1000 stock, very quiet fan as well, I have never seen mine go above 63 although it is in an Antec 1200.

That's very encouraging. I think that's my mind made up, thanks for the replies chaps :)

Time for me to get a new cooler for my xfx 5850 card then as i'm @ 775 and i'm getting temps of about 75'c (wish i had gone for this card now :( )

What cooler did it have?
Reference or non?

If its on OcUK could you possibly link it?
Its because I am purchasing the 5770 and that sounds like a nice overclock.

Thanks

go for the 5850,and forget this clowns advice on anything.

That's a bit harsh, the guy is simply showing him an an alternative.

My advice would be to go with another HD5770 and run it in crossfire if you think your PSU and case is up to it. Cheaper and you don't have the hassle of having to sell you other 5770 and you get terrific performance to boot (just look at Xfire HD5770 benchmarks to see what I'm talking about).

I got the turbo version his 5850 - im happy with it. winds up to 920/1200 stock volts/cooler. temps are low, rarely passing 65c loaded in games and barely touching 70 in furmark

this is in a ooooooold chieftec scorpio case so no fancy 120mm fans or advanced airflow
