Would like if a mods could make this a poll if possible :)

I just got completely laughed at in shock by a female work collegue, basically the story goes, im going on holiday in about 2 weeks time, as I dont tend to tan quickly, and there has been basically no decent sun the last 3-4 weeks me and a mate have deciced to go down the tanning salon to have a few sessions on the stand up sun tanning booths as we dont want to walk on to the beach as pale as casper.

I did do the same thing before I went on a previous holiday, around 5 years ago, a few of my male friends had a few sessions on them.

So, im asking the good people of OcUK, is it fairly "normal" for males to use them or should I walk in with a paper bag over my head, avoiding all human eye contact?

P.S NOT FAKE TAN, IM ON ABOUT SUNBEDS ;)

:)

Why does anyone do this - ever.

What is this odd preoccupation with looking tanned about in this country - particularly the Orange people.

I've lived here 6 years (coming from NZ) and it still amsues when I see the fake tans on people it just looks so funny!

What's wrong with being as pale as casper except that everybody will know it's the first day of your holiday? :p Does that really matter!?

personally I think it's a daft thing to do, but I also think its a daft thing to do for the ladies too. If I was that bothered I would get a spray on tan tbh rather than go to a tanning salon

No its not gay. Plenty of males do it for medical reasons. It's a treatment for psoriasis for example. Also, it helps with seasonal affective disorder. Doing it because you are vain on the other hand is as camp as a row of pink wigwams however. :D

I'm afraid you've lost a serious amount of manpoints there. I'm not surprised your female colleague has lost all respect for you. She will now strike you off the list of people to ask if she needs help opening a jar or moving something heavy.

And if you've really lost your way and gone for an "all over" tan, then the only job you'll be left qualified for is presenting a national lottery related quiz show.

PK!

tan = increased risk of skin cancer
imo nothing attractive about risking your health for vanities sake, regardless of gender

Isnt that from regular use though? not just a few sessions for a couple of weeks?

Is there any proof of it causing more damage then exposure to the real sun?

more to the point, is there any proof that it turns you gay? :p, iv never seen someone going in one of these places shouting (oi oi, get your **** out for the lads) then walking out wearing a rainbow flag singing "I like willies, I like willies")

No proof :)
