furthest you've driven in a day?

490 in a day, I didnt fine it too bad thb, it was just the traffic on the m25 took it out of me on the way home.

Fair enough, but surely there is no problem in this case as the employer is not asking the employee to do anything unreasonable. A 280 mile drive is quite tame really, and the employer isn't demanding that the drive is completed in a certain length of time, or without stops...

I think 11 hours driving and what ever work he has to do in one go, would be deemed very unreasonable and not ensuring he is taking adequate breaks.

It doesn't matter that he can take small breaks, they are forcing him to do it within a day , as they are not paying for hotel and that is where the problem lies. What the courts would deem as reasonable I do not know, I can only go by the email we got, which was briefed to all managers as well.

There is a legal HSE requirement that a consideration in journey planning is that the trip should not put the driver "at risk of fatigue". As mentioned above, I think both you and your company would have no defence if you had an accident driving those sorts of distances in a day. I'd either get the train, or get a co-driver. Or you could go down the day before and get your company to put you up somewhere?

If you don't fancy driving see if you can get a train.

At least you can get some shut eye on the train! :)

I've driven 700 miles in a day from northern Denmark down to Brussels, but it was particularly stressful, cruising at around 90 all the day.

500+ miles not sure exactly but atlanta to orlando, its great to hear the satnav say
"Go straight for.... more than.... 3...Hundred... Miles"

i did that on the turnpike - very easy drive. arriving in miami was like cruising around vice city. headed for south beach and i'd have been screwed if it wasn't for sat nav once i hit the spaghetti junction part

It was inded like Vice City. :D :D

730+ miles.

Bourton on the water(Cotswolds) to Blackpool. Stop for 20 min server update, then to Hull for another 20 min update then to Redruth (Cornwall) to meet up with wife and kids for a weeks break. All done in a 1998 Ford Fiesta Diesel van ( I use the term VAN very very loosely ).

Although it was a long day a steady supply of lucosade and skittles and I'm like a Duracell driving bunny.

well i do the regular trip to cornwall in one go at 375 miles ,longest is heckmondwike to lacanau ocean nr bordeaux with a dover /calais crossing in 24hrs

I might win on fuel usage, did 24mpg (US) on that 850mile trip. Was during the expensive period to cost me $4.50 a gallon!

412 miles

Swansea to Nottingham, to watch Steve Vai (backstage tickets no less!).

Had another gig in Birmingham the next day, so almost 800 miles in 2 days. Should have stayed overnight! :(
