Hey just invested in some new computer parts, 2 parts (the motherboard and graphics card) are from my grandads PC and bought everything else new.

Because they are out of an old PC i know that they work.

Motherboard: Asus M3A
Graphics Card: XFX 8800gt Alpha Dog Edition

Basically I turn it on, everything appears to be find, except the graphics card fan is on full, and nothing appears on the screen, Its not the card, tried it in my PC.

Any Ideas? I have tried ressetting the Cmos by taking the battery out, and it is properly fitted, and the power plug is in.

Regards

did something happed while you were movgint the GPU around? if the fan was on full i can only presume that it is overheating or something? perhaps reseating the heatsink or something on it?

UPDATE: I have fitted my GTX260 into it and exactly the same thing happens, soon as it starts fan starts on full, and no display. So surely it must be the mobo?? It has an opposite VGA connection and I dont think I have a lead, only have the standard ones.

Any ideas?

Try resetting your CMOS, When I tried to pin my Q6600 on my old XPS 700 mobo my machine fans would just spin when I tried to power it up no beeps or display.

Do you get any beeps from your machine at al?

It could be something as simple has you have overclocked to much, or it could be a dead part.

PS: it could be the wrong settings on your motherboard also as I said resetting your CMOS should sort that. Are you sure your motherboard supports said processor and are you using the latest Bios.

Ok it hasnt been overclocked at all, brand new processor, the mobo and graphics card came from a perfect working PC, so I don't get it. I have reset the CMOS, this hasnt worked. Its really getting frustating. How did you fix it, and I dont get any beeps just all the fans start up

Are you using the latest Bios on your motherboard assuming your sure that processor is supported Honestly it sounds like a processor problem to me but I could be wrong. If it's a decent motherboard you should here a beep when everything is set up correctly, it could also be something a simple as not plugging one of your power cables in.

have you tried plugging internal speakers into your motherboard? Beep codes are often helpful ways of diagnosing problems.

Beeps are working, because when I dont have the Graphics card PCI power in it beeps. Its so frustrating, because It really could be anything, and If i replace the mobo, and its the processor I will have waisting money. All Pc's in the house are intel aswell... GRRR

The processor is supported, and I have noticed that the CPU fan is at a constant spin from turning it on aswell...

Am sure the processor is supported but far to often motherboard need a Bios update to use newer processors. Have you check what the Bios updates for your motherboard add online so you can at least rule that problem out?

There are quite a lot of updates yes, but how do I update it when I cant get anything up on the screen??

Found some info

Processor that was in it before
Phenom X4 9500 (HD9500WCJ4BGD),2.2GHz,rev.B2,95W,SocketAM2+,Quad-Core

BIOS:
0301

Processor just bought
Athlon X2 7550+ ,2.5GHz,2MB,rev.B3,AD7550WCJ2BGH,95W,SocketAM2+

BIOS:
1102

So this is probably the problem, but how on earth can I fix it?

Your going to have to plug an old processor in and update the Bios, it's the only way really. but to be honest if it was running a Quad core and not it's not running a duel core that seems more problematic. I would recommend sending that processor back and picking up a cheap Quad core Phenom if I where you, there not expensive nowa days.

I would suggest assembling the pc out of the case. This will rule out a short causing the issue.

If the case power button leads can reach all good, otherwise use a flathead screwdriver on the two power pins to power the system on. I would suggest just using one stick of ram (alternate them too just to check it's not a RAM issue) and ensure all power connectors are plugged in as well as the gfx card.

It is possible that the cpu isn't compatible but i would imagine it would post but say the cpu isnt supported. It should allow you to access the bios to update it (N.B The update process varies from board to board). I know this seems extreme but if you do have to swap the cpu out then everything has to be removed from the case anyway.

Hope this helps, let us know what you find

Im going to try this, i purchased a new motherboard yesturday, because I tried the old processor in it, to update it, and the same issue occured so I was really confused. I think its the processor I really don't know, Ill RMA it, ill try building it out of the case now and update you, any more ideas?

If it's doing the same with the old cpu then it's fair to think it is mobo related.

As i suggested assemble it "barebones" out of the case. It may be worth testing a different psu just to rule it out as a cause.

Welcome to the "joys" of troubleshooting ;p Post what you find, we'll go from there

Hey fixed. All thanks to Honosuseri. I took it out the case and bam, it worked. So i completely cleared and dusted the case put it back in step by step and it was sorted.

Apart from one thing. It will only boot with 1 Ram stick of ram in it. So i installed windows with 1 stick in, went to put the other stick in and it still won't work is there anything i can do to make it work. Had a breif look at BIOS couldnt see anything that looked obvious.

Any suggestions? Mobo: K9n6PGM2-V2

I'm on a roll today ;p

I'm sure you thought of this but did you swap the stick over. Could be the RAM module is faulty.

May be worth checking what the RAM timings are for your memory and set them manually. Yes auto should work in the bios but these things are sent to try us.

Hope this sorts it, your welcome btw
