So, this story is starting to pop up on the various new sites. What do all you think? Will it be viable to have a PSP type device incorporated into a phone or vice versa? (a la N Gage)

Personally I quite like the idea, but will wait and see early previews when. However, it seems like a good future for all Android fans and users in 2011 at least!

On the software side, it looks like the device will be running Gingerbread (Android 3.0) with a phone-specific skin, and there will be a new area of the Android Market specifically for the games. That content will be initially accessible only by the halo device, but from the sounds of things, these titles might be made available to other Android phones if their specs and button layouts meet requirements. Games will be graphically in the range of PSX or PSP games, meaning true 3D gaming is headed to Android. Titles currently being shown off seem to be focused around some older PSX as well as new PSP offerings, with God of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and LittleBigPlanet possibly on tap, and future plans for titles which incorporate augmented reality features.

Surely there is going to be battery issues? My desire barely does 24 hours. Hope they manage to sort that area out, as I would be very interesrted.

My contract ends in february and i was going the get the iPhone 5 in June. I hope this is out by then as it will be a serious condender to the Iphone.

I will be getting me one of these!!! I doubt it, but I hope this is why SE are taking so frakking long to roll out 2.1 for my X10!! :P

This would be a nailed on purchase for me, I want a PSP anyway, but only for remoting into my PS3, so I can't justify the price. If I could combine it with an Android phone though, it'd be entirely justifiable!

Please bear in mind it has the 'potential' to be seriously awesome, it may be absolutely terrible with a 4 hour battery and lag like hell and so on.

Don't get too excited just yet, but I hope Sony can pull it off.

I'm also seriously excited by this, not so much because I want to play games on my phone (I can already do that, even on my crappy old Windows Mobile 6.2 handset!), but because it's the first time a major console manufacturer will be using an open OS that anyone will be able to code for and won't require certification by the platform holder! I suppose there'll be a separate, curated "Playstation Store", but it won't stop people from making any game they want even without Sony's stamp of approval.

This is a real sea change for a company who, up until a few years ago, wanted you to watch Sony movies on Sony TVs hooked up to Sony Playstations playing Sony games while listening to Sony-published music on your Sony Walkmans, who loaded their obnoxious copy protection system even on CD drives for PCs, who had to develop the UMD format from scratch for the PSP, adding millions of dollars to its development, simply because they didn't dare put their amazing Hi-MD drives on there because MDs were writable and people would be able to play pirated stuff on them!

Re: the actual phone, since it's a slide out it would be nice to have an actual keyboard on there too, either in all that empty space between the gamepad controls, or by incorporating the gamepad controls into the keyboard (eg. slightly raised WASD keys to act as a d-pad, stuff like that)

Looking forward to this too! Droid2 with game controller instead of harware keyboard would be nice :)

PS. Locke: Whos the bird in your sig? Mighty fine looking lady
