**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

This is one way to handle proxy gates as well if you're terran.

Heh, funny you should post that, I'm busy working on a Terran strat for Scrap Station vs. non Terran to basically lift off and fly to the island and go for either a Banshee rush or Medivac drop, basically to help me counter a 6 pool / 2gate or any kind of proxy, I'm just still working out if it's viable enough as it does hurt eco.
Is there a glossary of what people are saying on this thread, what is "proxy rax"?
Rax = Barracks (just rax for short), proxy basically involves building outside of your base, typically in or around the opponents base. A "Proxy Rax" would therefore be getting one of your SCV's very early and either building a barracks near your opponents base in a tucked away spot they won't scout, or building it inside the base in a corner if you can slip in unnoticed (a map like Scrap Station is good for that as the base area is quite large).

There's a good list here which explains a lot (all?) of the terminology.

Evil...I like it :D

Has worked a few times now. I think a few people are clue'd up on it. But since I am still in the silver league and haven't played much, lots of people seem to fall for it. An evil tactic, but amusing to watch. The guy who scouted all positions, saw I wasn't there and just quit :p

This wont work versus protoss, I mean first thing I would expect when I arrived at your base at around 11 supply, is for you to have lifted off and gone to the gold expansion. If I didn't find you there, I'd then assume you'd gone island and were going banshees. Two gates and a robo will destroy this with no trouble at all. And it will be nigh on impossible for you to expand from that position.

I think fast reapers > any kind of proxy play. You'll know they are proxying anyway your scout will see a nexus with nothing around it, soon as you see that, you know to go fast reaps. Against 6 pool, if you see a spawning pool already up at their main when your scout gets there, and they only have 6-7 drones, throw down a bunker within range of your scvs and put your marine in there as soon as it's done. Then use your scvs + bunker to hold off the initial lings. After that you've won.

Both these strategies are superior to lifting off. Although if you pull off and win with a lift-off strategy, you do get to save the replay for posterity :)

It is actually amzing how many terran players don't think to scout the edges of the map before quitting. Maybe they haven't noticed that most of their buildings lift off...

This is what I still don't understand. What's the 11 supply mean? In the guides and strategies online, I always see 11: barracks, 18: factory etc, but I have no idea what the numbers mean.

It's your unit number, so for example when you hit 11 units, plant a barracks.

They're pretty much rules you follow in the first few mins of a game, you then adapt from there. So for example i always lay a protoss supply at 9 units, so when my 10th finishes building the supply will also finish so i seamlessly flow into my 11th unit building without a 'gap'.
