furthest you've driven in a day?

I left Preston at 8pm and arrived (via Swindon) at Dockweiler, Germany at 4pm.

Same on the way back, left Dockweiler at 6am, stopped off in Swindon and arrived home in Preston at 10pm.

649 miles. Fun times.

A 500 mile round trip doesn't seem unreasonable to me. I've done similar distances in a day ofr work in the past and it's fairly easy, just take regular breaks. I'll be going from Skipton to Bath and back again one day next week and that'll be done in a day with a couple of hours work down here. From the hse perspective I know my own employer mandates breaks at least every two hours and we aim to avoid more than a 14 hour working day.

In my own car on personal business I've driven from Northern Scotand back to Skipton only stopping for fuel, and it wasn't hard at all, taking about 2 hours off the sat nav time.

Longest distance was a trip to birmingham and back... about 300 miles.

Longest time is probably 18 hours. Picked the hire car up at 10AM and got home at 4AM the following day.

Probably about 600 miles or so, my car done 750 or so but I had a rest somewhere in the middle. Which was Nice to La Chapelle St Etienne via Millau.

Unless you are going to spend 6 months of the year out in Cyprus surely the cost of maintaining said half-abandoned car, registering it, keeping it legal over there, blah blah blah is still more than simply hiring a Fiesta from Hertz at 100 quid a week

No (otherwise we wouldn't be doing it), and it isn't £100 a week, either.

Las Vegas to San Fransico in a day about 600 miles took about 12 hours, I've driven Gatwick - Manchester - Gatwick lots of time in a day once in a E reg 1600 petrol transit, if your doing this much mileage this is why you need a comfortable car over anything else.

We're replying to a thread about distances travelled. Discussing locations (travelled to and from) is an obvious subject which will be covered.

Here's an example:

Is better than saying "I travelled 600 miles."

Added the context to make my post a bit more interesting and easier to visualise. :)
