The alternator belt went on my car last night and I managed to just get it home before the battery conked out. I realised that my breakdown cover had lapsed so I renewed today. Will they come out and fix it tomorrow do you reckon or will they not touch something thats happened before renewal?

Cheers

Read the documentation where it will tell you exactly how long before you can use the service. It differs per provider.

Just read the documents. Its what they are for.

Well it says I'm covered straight away but I cant use the home callout until tomorrow. So I assume thats ok then?

Have you read the small print as well? For example, from the RAC Breakdown terms and conditions (page 17, "General exclusions"):

RAC Membership does not cover [...] Vehicles which were broken down or unroadworthy at the time of joining or upgrading Your Membership.

I know other companies have similar clauses, and some I'm pretty sure don't (such as the AA, though if anyone knows differently please correct me).

Will they fix it if they do come out? or just take you to the nearest garage to get if fixed? Might be as well just getting it fixed yourself.

They will put a belt on and charge you for the part.
