Another one of these threads. Hopefully get some good input - usual drill, just looking for a thumbs up or someone to point out any areas of concerns or places they think I can improve.

This will be a mid-range gamer rig.

Intel 760 i5
Zalman CNPS10X Perfoma
Gainward GTX460 768MB
OCZ 4GB 2x2 1333Mhz Gold
Mobo GA-P55A-UD3
PSU Zalman ZM600-HP
Gskill Phoenix 120GB SSD
Sony AD7240 DVDRW
NZXT Whisper Case
Windows 7 64bit
Benq G2420HDBL

Only thing I'd say is that apparently the ocz gold has had lots of problems with turning up dead so my want to choose another set of memory. There's a thread about it somewhere. Goodluck with it all

Noted, I may well look elsewhere.

Care to recommend a brand who is a current favourite?

+1 for the ripjaws. I did wonder why you where buying 1333 ram when you can easily run 1600 speed ram.

What about upgrading to the 1 gig model of the 460 as the extra ram bandwidth and performance is worth the extra money especially if your playing at the monitors native resolution. you could get a smaller SSD to balance the costs.

I'd get the next mobo up..... the UD-4. It's the cheapest one which works well with multi-gpu setups.

You might not be considering SLI at the moment, but in a year or two you might. For the difference of a tenner you keep your options open with the UD-4.

OK guys, i'll look at -

- 1GB GTX460 instead of the 768mb
- Gskill memory, faster.
- UD4 Mobo

I'm also considering looking at the AMD CPUs to bring the cost down a bit, this is only going to be a gaming rig so good enough is OK for me!

Questions / notes!

Memory

I'm in Australia and this memory is out of stock. Is there any real down side to going with this one instead? or should I look to a different memory brand?

Case

Has changed to Antec P183 just because :)

Motherboard

Gonna stick with the UD3 and not go for the UD4! I likely wont go SLI, by the time I upgrade in 2+ years there will be something else anyway!

Can justify the additional cost :(

Graphics Card

Is the 1GB version really going to make a massive difference? WHere I am the cost difference is quite large between the 768MB and 1GB.

There's not much difference between the memory, just slightly slower memory timings, which is only useful for AMD cpus.

And the 1gb card is well worth the extra.

Yeah there was some Tomshardware link that Cat-the-fifth had previously posted, its good for AMD systems because the onboard memory controller is very sensitive to better timings.

Will find it later.

Thanks stulid.

I may do a test myself later.... I remember there was a noticable difference in speed in memtest with timings on my rig, but that was with a different Command Rate...
