Microsoft to launch IE9 beta on Sept. 15

Intersting, what has been their past performace in beta to release for ie7 and ie8?

The fourth IE9 preview also does better than any previous version of Internet Explorer on the Acid3 test, which compares a number of commonly used Web browsing technologies. The latest IE9 preview scores 95 out of 100, earlier versions of the IE9 preview scored 83, and the current Internet Explorer 8 only scores 20.

hehe thank you
I phrased my question incorrectly, I actually mean time. How long was there between beta ie7 and release and ie8 and relase, to gauge when ie9 might actually launch.

The first IE8 beta was about a year before release. I don't think you can gauge from that, though, because IE8 didn't have any 'preview releases' like IE9 has, which in many ways are betas. I reckon it'll be out by Christmas.

Sounds good. I have fairly high hopes for it since MS will want to keep the momentum going with IE.

This is quite a significant version in my opinion so you'd think they'd be careful not to screw it up. I will definitely be trying the beta.

MS will want to get it right to keep up with the rest, also IE9 will no dought ship with Win 8 when it comes out in Beta. But again i might be wrong, it could be IE10.

I'll be trying the beta when it comes out. Though if its anything like IE8. IT wont be installed long term.

This might be the version in which IE steps up to the competition to at least be a contender instead of way behind like it is right now.

If the browser ballot screen comes up, users will probably have a choice against Firefox 4 and updated versions of Chrome, Opera, etc which might lead out against IE9 even if it is a lot better than IE8, IE7 and so on.
