Ok gents I'm usually pretty up to date with GPUs but I was interested to see what other peoples' opinions on this subject are.

I'm looking to try 3D vision so I'll need to ditch the 5850 and get myself a green card. The two options in the title are what I came up with, though any other suggestions are welcome so long as they come in under £300. I was also considering 200 series cards but the drop from dx11 to 10 (even though it means 0 in games at the moment), lack of warranty second hand and silly costs new put me off somewhat.

Now the way I see it:

Cost: 470 is £225 ish vs 460 SLI is £290ish

Power usage: Not 100% but single card should be less.

SLI: I've only briefly used it with some 8800gt's and I'm not a fan of xfire. Should I be worried? Scaling of the 460s seems very good though.

Speed: 460 SLI is considerably faster than a 470.

Noise: 460 SLI is quieter according to reviews (pinch of salt perhaps though?).

Memory: reviews seem to find that the 768mb is enough for my res (1920x1080) but I honestly don't know if this is the case as I'm sure I read somewhere that Crysis very high at only 1680x1050 uses 800mb+.

Now I don't want this to turn into a red vs green thread. I've had two 5850s which I've been happy with but I want to try something new.

What would you guys do in my situation? Try to keep in mind that a 480 and 460 1gb SLI are both over budget.

two 460's will murder a 470.....in fact two 460's will hump a 480!!

go for the 1gig versions of the 460 though as you get extra ROP's and more memory :D

Sadly the 1gb versions are £50+ over budget for the cheapest ones or almost £100 over budget for the ones which people have deemed "the only ones worth buying" ie the giga and MSI versions :(

Why don't you try a 2nd hand 480gtx ? (if one can be found of course)

I did have a quick look. I've only ever seen one on the MM which was snapped up right away and the ones on the auction site are all silly prices still (as is usually the way with that place).

I'll keep my eye out though.

i would get the best card you can afford then sli later

new games dont use SLI till new drivers come out so not worth it

ive always had sli and this upgrade GTX480 ill not bother when this card gets slow ill sell it and buy new again
