Alright, IDrive is going too far, but stuff like uprated brakes, suspension, a tad more power, etc would be a welcome addition.

So buy an improved new car, the whole point of classics is that they are old surely.
I think the difference is that we're older, wiser and generally better - we know how to drive cars without DSC, ABS, Power steering, heated seats etc.
I can see where the young boys are coming from though - I wouldn't really fancy driving an old vintage 1920s car as a daily because I didn't grow up with them.

WHY would you want the M1 with anything other than the original straight six? Have you ever heard an M1 pro car in the flesh? (check youtube if not - links in the le mans thread in motorsport forum) Shame on you for even contemplating it!
Oooookay. That just happened to be the first thing that came to mind, it was more of an example than an actual request.
I certainly wouldn't chop up a decent road going M1, but if I had one that needed restoring and I had lots of cash...
Besides, I was talking about an M1, not the Pro Car which was heavily moddified. 277bhp vs 470bhp+

Modernising a classic doesn't necessarily ruin it's character.
Take something like a 1965 Anglia 105E but fitted with "modern" brakes, suspension, and a Duratec running stock injection. What a brilliant reboot of a classic car - plus it makes it more useable and therefore more likely to be driver regularly which is a good thing.
